Where to buy engine rebuilt kit? And what's involved?

I've got a broken spark plug and easy out stuck in the front rotor. I've pulled the engine out of the car and I am now planning on disassembling the engine and rebuilding it.

Mazdatrix has a complete gasket set for $132.53. They also have steel apex seals for $49.98.

Mazdaspeed has the apex seals for $34.60 Is there a difference? I couldn't find a gasket set on Mazaspeed but they must have one.

What/where are other places to buy from?

I'm also planning on doing the Rat's Nest removal. Is there anything else that is a "must" while I have the engine out? I want to turn the car into an IT-7 but I just don't have the money for it right now. I do know that I don't want to bother with porting.

I got my rebuild kit from Atkins. RotaryAviation also has kits Both places sell a rebuild video...I used the one from RotaryAviation and found it to be excellent. I've heard nothing but good thinks about the Atkins video as well. I highly recommend getting one of these videos...very useful.

can you use the 13b rebuild videos to rebuild a 12a? are the engines similar enough that you cn get it done after watching the 13b videos? i haven't seen any 12a specific rebuild videos

Sometimes Mazdatrix is a little high, but sometimes it's because they are OEM parts. I often buy from M'trix just because they're reliable and quick.

Hopefully an expert wil chime in here, but I'll give my opinion. I would think that it would help with a 12A rebuild as long as you understand that some of the details will be different. But the general principles should be similar enough that it would still be valuable to have the video.

the engines are identical in function and parts. rebuilding a 12a or a 13b is the same thing, at least on a first gen. thats why you dont see 12a specific rebuild videos, there is no need.

Just curious as to why you have no interest in porting the motor while you have it apart. From what I understand, it is a simple process that yields huge gains.

rotors, housings, e shaft, i think the oil pump on the 6 port 13b is bigger maybe, but the same.

I'll do a Google search but is it against the rules of the forum ***** to post web links?

Getting close to a year. I broke it before I moved here. That was in Nov. I think it broke some time in Sept or Oct. With the move, winter here, getting laid off, and the summer humidity, I haven't had a chance to mess with it.

I'm working again and last weekend was half way decent weather wise.

Porting isn't legal in IT-7. I doubt I will actually ever race in IT-7 but it puts the car in CSP for autoxing. I don't know if porting is legal in CSP but I do know that it's an all or nothing class change for IT-7/CSP. I don't have a roll cage so I will be cheating a little anyway. The car really isn't competive in that class anyway but I'd like to keep up appearances anyway.

There is also a guy I work with that has a 1st gen in IT-7 so I may some day get brave enough to do everything legal like and go racing with him.
