Wheels for SE

Ok, I've searched and Searched but typing Wheels in Search Box is almost as bad as typing Turbo. You get 20,000 threads and none of the first 20 pages are what you're looking for.

So, here goes.....

I just recently bought an 85 GSL SE and I do not want the 14" rims. I want to go with 15" Rims or even better a 2nd Gen rims.

What do I need to do, to accomidate 2nd Gen Rims or 15" Rims.

Are there Adapters for this?

Any help is appreciated becuase I'm VERY new to the Rx7 Arena and I'm not sure half the time if I'm even asking the Correct questions to get the Answers I want.

Thanks a bunch
Rich

they seem pretty universal. you just need to make sure the offset is going to be correct.

The bolt pattern of the SE is 4x114.3. This is a pretty standard bolt pattern and those wheels have that pattern. The only problem you might run into is the offset. I can't remember what the offset of the SE wheels are.

Ok, great, That's a lot of info that I didn't have

So I have 114.3 x 4 Bolt Pattern and I need an Offset of 35 - 40mm

As long as I get Rims with these Specs I should have zero problems

TY so much

Most 4-bolt second-gen wheels should fit. As 85rotarypower mentioned, the offset's the thing to watch.
Factory GSL-SE wheel is 5.5" wide with a 40mm offset. Gong with a wider wheel you'd want a little less offset to keep the clearance between the tire and the strut, so 35mm's probably about right, I think.
Let's see, 6.5" wheel is one inch wider. If the offset was the same (40mm) then the wheel would be 0.5" closer to the strut. Reducing the offset 5mm should move it back out about 0.25" or so. Well, 5mm exactly, I guess
I have an email message from the FB list where an owner bought 15x7 PAnasports with 33mm offset, and everything cleared, but only just.
You should be OK.
Those are nice looking wheels, BTW. I've been eyeballing several of Motegi's offerings for my GSL-SE suspensioned '79, but I'm still in love with the Enkei RSF-2. Cheap at around $100, too (Discount Tire Direst.)

As stated by the above posters, the SE wheel offset is stock at 38mm. If you go with aftermarket wheels, aim for 35mm, since you'll likely be moving up to 15x7 wheels - the lower offset will help your tires clear your springs - that is where the closest interference will come.

A post out here showed pictures of SE front-ends with various offset wheels and how close they come to the spring - it's within about 2-3 mm in some cases - check this BEFORE you plunk down serious money on wheels, obviously.

My wheels are MB Motoring 272's, 15x7"/35mm offset with 205/55 VR Yokohama ES100's. These fit well, don't rub anywhere, and have excellent wet and dry grip.

Your wheel choice is much better than the 4x110 on non-SE cars. Good luck, and report back with what you choose to get,
