Wheel Stud Spec

What is the wheel stud size on the 79 RX7? I am planning to get some wheel locks for my 13" Monza rims.

there was a thread a little while back about lock nuts.. i hate people saying this to me but give the serch a go

apparently there pretty hard to get because its a bolt and not a nut like most cars.. but some one found a place that has em..

or even just bring one one of ur studs into a tire place, they will be able to match it up..

well if i were home id go measure em for you, but the 79-80 waffle wheels have slightly longer studs than the other stock wheels on first gens.

i just went to 4 tire stores today and they said they never seen them like that be4.. wtf?? so he told me about a lugnut conversion.. screwing a stud in there and putting a lugnut instead of having a lugbolt.... do u think this is a safe way to go? i'm thinking about doing it that's the only way i'm going to get my rims on thier... thanks

because other car companys have a backing on the stud.. and with this conversion there would not be a backing.. so u would just have to screw it on ( really tight) and hope for the best lol....

Conveting to studs is the way to go in my opinion. I just installed mine actually. Mazdatrix and several other companies sell them on-line. You aree going to need 12mmx1.5 Studs. I also went ahead and got some anodized locking lug nuts. When installing the new studs, just put a little lock-tite on the threads, they wont come loose! Good luck!

Wheel studs

I bought some wheel studs for my RX4 recently. They were made by EMPI (the VW guys) and came in two different lengths. 5 to a package for $3, not a bad deal. I had a few studs already, so I only had to get 3 packages (15 studs). I've used the blue loctite on wheel studs for many years, with good results.
What do those "Monza" wheels look like? Are those the 4-spoke style that was popular on Datsun 510s?

just make sure you put the loctite on the bit that goes into the hub rather than nut *LOL*

My '82 S was converted over to studs and nuts rather than those hairbrained factory lugbolts. For the record there is NO Loctite or any other "glue" on mine. When I take the wheel off, I can unscrew most of them out by hand. However, they do tighten down once I put the wheel back on. I've put 8k miles on this setup and have not had a problem yet. As usual, your milage may vary..

Man.............I have never expected the stock wheel stud causes so many problems due to it is lugbolts instead of lugnuts. Any theft prevention for the my Monza rims you guys would suggest.

(Warning: the following post is pedantic)

Stock us bolts, not studs. Studs go with lug nuts, and our cars didn't come with 'em from Hiroshima. Several people convert over, preferring the American stud/lug system to the wheel bolt system.
