Probably the good old clogged fuel filter, when it dies are you a little more "into" the gas pedal?

Definitely replace your fuel filter as a start, because if that's what it is then in a little while you'll have to wait longer for it to start back up again after it stalls. Once you've pulled the late night half-hour walk-home, you remember to change your fuel filter every year lol.

That's odd. I guess you should make sure you don't have any vaccuum leaks, mine used to do that and I had a cracked hose on one of those accursed rats nest solenoids. Once I replaced it, the car stopped doing that. Other than that, maybe your fuel pump is dying and not supplying enough fuel at cruise?

I had that problem with my SE. On my car it turned out to be a slightly lose nut on one of the coils, which ever one the tach ran off of. When that wire dosen't make great contact with the coil the computer dosen't know the car is running. Of course check all the other stuff too.

Just to clearify, the emisions computer in the 12a cars controls the fuel pump.

What you could do is take off the fuel line from the carb and route it into a bucket. Turn the key and see if there is a steady flow of fuel coming out. Quite simple to do and will tell you if its the fuel that is the problem or not.
