Question ??Exhaust Replacement Racing and Street??

How much would be considered a fair price to have stock exhaust from the catalytic converter on back replaced, with a basic muffler? I just got another Rex and it needs exhaust work bad.

Also, what would the modifications be to run a straight pipe back to a muffler without the cat? Would it have a positive or negative effect on engine performance to bypass the cats to make the car suitable for racing? If so, what would need to be done to compensate for the changes?

Thanks,

Smokin' Joe in KC

best way to go is a racing beat system. i think you'll find almost unanimous agreement here on that. if anything an rb header and presilencer with custom else. the header is the best bang for the buck power mod you can do.

Cool. I probably will do that soon.

My main problem right now is just finding an ultra cheap way to get any basic exhaust replaced on my car without much fuss, just so I can drive it around without smelling the fumes coming up from underneath me (there is nothing left behind the cat, no muffler, etc.)

If someone were to just run pipe back to a muffler without a cat, would that be fairly cheap to have someone do?

Unless you want to DIE, stop driving like this. Carbon Monoxide poisoning is very real, especially with rotaries.

You will get nauseous, headaches, feel bad, lethargic, and possibly die. It takes days to get it out of your system, and builds up if you keep re-exposing yourself to it.

Get the exhaust out the back where it belongs.

I'm glad you posted this. I needed to hear it. Though I am well aware of it. I just got the RB single pipe full system. It smells like ****. It's horrible. I get a headache everytime I drive it. It really is bad. Maybe my tuning is off, I'm running rich or something, I don't know. It idles like **** and backfires horribly as well. I'm thinking of getting a highflow cat to replaced the connecting pipe. hell I probably need two or three....in that case maybe I'll put the old system back on! Or get rid of the car.

How much is a high flow cat, will it cut the fumes, and how much will it cut performance? I really cannot drive the car like this.

Mound, you need two things.

1) Get a new O2 sensor placed where headers collect.

2) THEN tune it.

The lack of O2 sensor will sometimes wreak havoc on an SE FI system.

I installed a new O2 sensor when we installed the header. It's a Bosch but it should work.

So, how do I go about tuning this thing. It's obviously dumping too much fuel as it's backfiring and it smells horrible. If I can tune it up good to relieve some of the emissions until I can get a cat on there, I would be happy and keep the car. Otherwise, selah!

Right on.
