"rx-7s are excellent winter cars."
i agree 100% *but* i remember a few winters ago, with a fresh 6" of powder, where my mode 1 airdam acted as a slowplow! (got a lil frustrating having to pull off the road every 1/2 mile to clean off the windshield from all the snow thrown onto it!!)

Yes, shame. NY uses an unbelievable amount of salt on their roads. Cars driven year-round rust out in short order. I realize it snows in OH, but it truly is different in NY. Last fall (Oct '01) I welded a 6"x6" piece of replacement metal onto the rocker panel of my '92 Isuzu Rodeo. Less than 9.5 years old and I'm replacing metal already.
My parents ran their first 7 in the winter and it started to rust out quick. They sold it 8 years ago and it looked bad. I can't imagine it's remotely road worthy at this point.

Well my car does run... so long as the cops don't catch me! It's not registered, not insured, and sure as hell not California Smog legal.
But it does run ok... besides the nice cloud of oil I leave behind, no problems.... well maybe some. But I'm fixing it soon right?

I've had days with my dark green Ford where I'd wash it clean at work, then from 5 miles to another location, and it would be pure white again from salt.
The salt also makes the roads really slippery when the roads are totally dry yet coated with a layer of caked on salt. Learned THAT lesson
My ex-car, "White Trash", was a Texas car for most of its short life. They brought it to Ohio 3 or 4 years before I got it, didn't drive it in snow, and it had a minor rust hole in the right rear quarter. 2 years later you could push your fingers through the roof, the floor, the fenders... http://my7.rx-7.org/PJ
Not as bad as my Subaru was, though, When it was 10 years old the wiring harness caught fire, from salt spraying on some connectors that were exposed due to the body becoming, er, absent. When I broke that car down, I removed the seatbelts my pushing on them gently from below. The rear suspension practically fell out without tools.
If ya don't like it, move...

I'm just toying with the idea.
That's kinda why I've been checking out the site.
I think the Gen 3's are beautiful cars but still an expensive starting point.
I wanted to see how the rotary technology has changed.
When I did my 7, there was Rotary Engineering and Racing Beat. That was it!
I've had an RX2, RX3, RX4, a Cosmo, and the 7.
Do I really want to do it again with a Gen3?
I don't know.
My 5000 lb truck turns mid 13's.
I keep think about the cost of another 7 plus mods to get it into the 12's.
At this point,,,,, just thinking.

Mine is in running condition but stopped for winter. Im polishing the intake along with Porting it and see how that goes. Im also going to redo some rust repairs and possibly install a lightweight flywheel...I might also do some more weight reduction like removing one of my amps and my sub, im not sure though...

My `82 Rx7 is running nicely currently. After about 1.5 year, its finally running good, and pulls quite strong.
Its due for a front suspention overhaul. The lefthand strut is bent,i have to get a new one.But believe me: there is no such thing as spare parts where i`am.
Probablly have to import one from Racingbeat,or maybe even Mazda in Japan.

I think its time to start working on a new motor:The craving for more HP is there
:D *evil voice*whahahahaha :13B Peripheral Port

I can run up to mine and start it right now... In fact, I did like 6 months ago when I swapped out the magnetic pickups in my dizzy... (It wasn't the ignitors after all, so now I have spares.)
Unfortunately, it's not got proper tags, registration, or safety inspection on it... On top of that, the choke mechanism or cable is seized up, so it fast idles all the time.
The front end is WAY outta alignment and the steering box is hosed... (Bout an eighth of a turn either direction of play...)
Waiting on a little more cash and a chance to haul it to a buddy of mine's shop where I can dismantle it... Already have the CP Racing Rack and pinion kit to replace the box, although UPS fucked up the steering column replacement, so I've gotta wait on that repair.
Technically it is drivable and I took it to the gas station to air up the tires a little while ago, but it's NOT fun with that steering.
