Question What's the status of your car?

Everyone's 1st Gen is in one state of repair or the other. Some guys are building beautiful rotary rockets while others are watching the weeds grow through the rust holes. lol Mine's a work in progress and sometimes it's off the road for a few days or weeks at a time. Right now it's in winter storage and while it's there I'm restoring the gas tank. I'm also gonna be replacing the clutch hydraulic system as well. So I would classify mine as "undergoing minor repairs". What's that status of your 1st Gen? Just curious.

Exactly.....current '84 is a perfect driver

the '80 is as dead as a car body gets, engine and tranny OK, but that's about it....

the '83 I'm going to get is a runner but needs carb work to pass inspection, everything else is perfect including the incredible black interior...

Believe it or not my car is at 100% except for the slipping clutch (no biggie), the starter that doesn't work when it's cold (also no biggie), and the intake manifold gasket that leaks verrrrry slightly (again, no biggie). Will need a cat put on it by March if I stay in Cleveland.

Just need legal registration Till then it's just a driveway ornament. But hey, I'm really good at rebuilding calipers now, and I finally tracked down and fixed the stereo so that the front speakers work.

before my car went into storage it went for a month and a half without any mods or anything breaking.

Now its all torn apart for my turbo II swap, I have the engine and tranny mounted. and the bnr stage 3 turbo is on there with a RB downpipe.

Im working on installing a intercooler right now.

84 (base) - my toy...daily driver, waiting to pay off the engine, so i can get the electromotive software dialed in, rear quarters mariah mode 1, front fenders and bumper from my 83 (til i get the $ for a new mode 1 airdam)

83gsl - runs, but burns oil badly (will be daily driver when snow comes

other 83gsl - parts car (missing front clip, and soon to be missing lsd and disc brake rear end!)

Aww man, did you HAVE to remind me?

The '85 engine smokes like a freight train when cold. Seems OK when warm so it should pass the smog test once said cat is put on.

Hmm.... Options options...

1. Leave it like that until it uses more oil than gasoline and leave your cars alone already

2. Throw the '80 engine in there

3. Port the crap out of the '80 engine and throw it in there

4. Get an '83-85 12A with a blown rear rotor, scavengine its front rotor and rotor housing, and ressurect the Evil Engine and throw it in there

5. Same as 4 but have much more biggerful porting instead of "torque central" porting

6. I now have in my possession a S4 13B that needs some TLC. Stock 2mm apex seals can handle high RPM like stock 3mm seals don't. Nahhhh, I'll use it for parts to put together one good 13B for the '87

My 85 gsl is up on jackstands.. undergoing various repairs/upgrades.. recently aquired - not driven in well over a year and wouldn't pass inspection if the guy was deaf, blind and quadrapalegic.

I'm rebuilding the interior, trying to get motor to run right while installing a mikuni carb that I haven't figured out, and rebuilding the entire exhaust system, fixing brakes and suspension etc..

Here's a recently refurbished door panel (I shoulda taken a b4 picture!)

My 82 is in tip top shape.installed new brake pads yesterday. i've got that pain in the *** oil leak still.
I'm waiting for my o-ring / gasket set to arrive from VB
to repair the leak. My oem 12a runs awesome, amazing!
everything, i mean EVERYTHING,electrical,etc,, works.
I drive it every day,, i don't feel right if i don't drive once a day in it,In june i'll have owned it 2 years. I must admit
that i got a good one, i've pushed it to the limits, and it holds together. Yes i can drive it hard (after i warm it up first) right now !!!

Mine is about 90% restored - new engine, new paint, all dents fixed, great interior and no rust. It's my daily driver, with 175k miles and it looks like it just rolled out of the showroom.

mines being stored during the snowy season here in NY. it's waiting for me to pull the turbo's oil return line off and clean out the old gunky oil. maybe some marvel mystery oil for it too. the car is in excellent shape mechanically but I plan on painting it black (it's red now) this spring. i can't wait to drive it, my beater Beretta GT is way too slow and automatic.

Well, my blue 85 GSL runs great, but I had to let my roomie borrow it since his damn 88 'Vert caught on fire and is "under construction..."

So I'm stuck everyday either bumming rides, driving the 110000% illegal 84 Supra (registration, inspection, NO KEYS, no title, no insurance, etc), or stealing the gf's celica

The other 85 GSL, the brown one, is still in Gamble's possession, waiting for some "fun stuff." The kind of fun stuff that gets me banished from this board...

'83 GSL - Is may daily driver so I have to have it running. It's amazing what you can get done when you know you have to have it work before the day ends.

'85 GSL-SE - Will be a long project.

Nice colorful sig Error!

Hmm, 83 GSL in garage awaiting engine swap. Just need a cherry picker. Also pulled the carpet to look for rust and repair any I find. Putting interior back together.
Hoping to have it ready to go by Feb/March after it stops snowing around here (Missouri).

82 GSL - taking engine out to put in the 83, since the 83 leaks oil (dowel leak). Body is shot, turning into parts car.

82 GSL - already a parts car and almost finished stripping now. Interior was almost all gone when I got it but still had the drivetrain and engine core plus some good glass and body parts, all rims.

I'm currently looking for a 83" in good shape and running condition for emmisions reasons. My car would have a better chance at passing emissions if I showed up without it..lol Anyways, my plan is to swap motors after the E test so I can still have the power and performance of the 13B engine. And before anyone says it, i know I will have to swap back and forth for emissions testing every other year, but it's worth it to me. I should have never moved to an emissions county.

'84 SE fully functional, but in winer storage. Saw another SE driving through my town the other day right after we'd gotten 10" of the white stuff. Shame.

shame?

rx-7s are excellent winter cars. it's a shame to NOT drive one in the winter.

the only car i've had in the winter better than my '80 was my 4WD Subaru. And believe me it's a close match - neither car left me stuck or stranded at any time. The Subaru only wins because, well, it's just SO MUCH FUN to do a 4-wheel powerslide at 70mph on the interstate
