Whatcha think!?

I was sifting through autotrader the other day and saw this....

http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/v...&ac_afflt=none

I called him up and he said the only thing that needs done is the AC needs a new compressor and there are a few nick on the hood from rocks and so on (new paint before that). Other than that he said it's origional. I was thinking if I talked him down to 2k it would be a good catch... am I way off? (don't really know what the SE's are going for these days). If it is in good condition (no rust) then I'll probally pick it up along w/ a mx6 LS after (or maby before) my truck is sold. (should be soon at the new asking price... I really need to get rid of it and get somthing w/ better gas mileage).

slow day....

I was just thinking... I'm gonna get the VIN number and make a run at it... but on top of that.... he said the oil cooler had a small crack in it that can't be welded (he tryed to have somone do it but I guess it's in a location that can't be welded) and it needs tags FAILED emmissions here in AZ (but I think I can get it to pass maby) He's willing to work w/ me on the price becuase it failed emmissions.
I'm gonna go take a look at it tommorow morning... A compression check would probally be a good idea also... I was wondering... whatexactly would I need to do a compression check and how much would it cost.... O... and how do you do one? hehe.... sorry for all the questions... but if this really is a good grab.. I want to get it before someone else does. Perhapes someone here has a webpage about compression checks on reX's... and can I rent a good compression checker or should I just buy a semi-good one.

Thanks in advance...
Chris.

Thumbs up

**** on the compression test....Test drive that beauty. If it's a smooth goer....Buy that baby right now! If you can get 'em down to $2000, all the better! Gawwd, Max7 would eat nails to get at that thing! Where is it at? If it's a SW U.S. car, like where you live, you've got a real beauty there.

If that thing was in Ohio there'd be a gun-battle over it!

Denny, from the 'ol corncrib....

I think if I saw a nice SE without rust up here in MI I would fall over.

They just don't exist around these parts.

Same here, it took forever to find an SE with little rust and a reasonable price. I say buy the thing if it's in good shape.

Just so ya know, I ran my car through KBB, (85600 on the clock, 85 -SE, and it came up @ ~2900). So if you can get him down to about 2, then sheet. And as for the oil cooler, I saw a 2nd gen one on e-bay about an hour ago. You can put that sucker in, and blam, that problem is fixed. As for a/c, you can prolly just ditch the whole system anyway, unless you feel you'll actually USE it

But it certainly seems like a steal at 2k.

Thanks for all your input guy!...... I happen to have a 2nd gen oil cooler in the back of my brokendown 85 in the driveway (the one I'm rebuilding w/ a TII.... I didn't know that it would fit... if that is the case then I'm set! As for the AC... I'll probally have to fix it... I do live in AZ after all. On those 115 days I'll want it lol.

I'm off to get some breakfast and then I'm meeting the guy at his house. If it's in great as shape that I think it's in I'm gonna make a deal w/ him (of course I can't get it till monday when I can get the money out of my bank) but this just may be my SE!

I'm gonna snap a TON of pics and put them on my webpage when I get back home... I'll post here again when I'm back w/ the results!

Well.... a quick update!

I went and checked it out... and sure enough... it's in GREAT and I mean GREAT condition!.... just a few quarks but thats ok... nothing you can't expect out of a 16yo car. I talked w/ the guy for quite a while and test drove it. I came up w/ a deal that we both thought was a good deal and on monday I pickup my new 85 gsl-se. I will be the 2nd owner on the nice black (w/ red interior) 98k miles gsl-se! WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next I get to do a bit to get it to pass emissions then it's time for a new exaust and some other things... but I might keep the rest stock. I mean he has the original manual and stereo and everything. DAMN.... I'm so f'en happy! Just needs an AC compressor, new oil cooler (got a 2nd gen in my garage) and a paint job (few nicks here and there....)
