What would you pay for this GSL-SE?

Ran across an opportunity for a GSL-SE in very nice condition. 1985 model, all original, about 80K miles, very well maintained and kept clean and garaged too. Two owners, both female, the last a car buff and collector who really took fine care of the car.

Given this background, what's a reasonable price? I know guys here have had "original" low mi cars for sale here in the $5500 to $6000 range. Not sure what they got, but... on the flip side, I see SEs here for $3500, but they have hi mils or are beat to **** and modded to hell by hacks.

Opinions please!

the car sounds like what we all here end up paying to have all the stuff done to get ours that nice,,,feel the sellers out, if they are needing to sell than they will take less, make a low offer and have the "cash in hand", would be a hard car to pass up,,,,but they will be sitting on it awile at that price.....good luck

For an SE with a factory 13B and all the suspension upgrades? With low miles? Garaged? With the trans oil changes very 25K, engine oil every 3K? Original paint that is pristine and mint? C'mon guys, be real! Heck, beater -SEs have a $3500 asking price!!

No, beater Se's go for $1200-$1500 if that. I see them around every so often for that price. Hey its your money if you wanna spend that much on a first gen then go for it. Maybe if it were a 79 limited or 80 leather sport with like 10k miles and stored all its life then maybe i would budge my 2k limit but thats about it.

Just make sure you have someone familiar with rotary engines go over the car before you buy. You dont want to be stuck with a $5000 Peice Of Sh*t.

i would pay $3500 MAX for that.

I bought my SE, 120k miles, garaged most of its life, 16" rims and newish tires, near perfect interior, NEAR perfect exterior, for 3k. They were trying to get 3500 for it originally (because of the wheels). but there were some minor engine probs, so i gots it for 3k.

I would say 3500 tops, 3000 much more reasonable.

I have to agree with Iotus.

First, think of comparisons.. for $4000, at this time of year, you could get a really nice '73-'74 Porsche 914, which with some easy suspension upgrades will drive circles around a GSL-SE. And a stock GSL-SE will beat a stock 914 in straight-line acceleration, but once you start modifying the engines, it's anybody's call.

Second, think of the time of year.. it's Fall, with Winter fast approaching. Selling a sports car in the wintertime is a major bitch, so the sellers are selling at a bad time of year. If they don't sell it soon, like within the next couple of weeks, then they may become more flexible on the price.. but if they're asking $3500 or so, don't expect much movement on the price.

By the way, what is the asking price?

Depends how clean it is.... I wouldnt sell my SE for less than $ 10,000 !!!First gens are like the early z cars , there going to jump in value if you ask me ! if you find a car you really like and your planning on keeping it then it dosn't matter how much you spend!!

On Ebay – an 85GSL-SE in mint cond – with 80K – right geographic location – right color – has a good chance of getting $5K
But if they really want to sell it bad, a lot less. Mint condition ones are becoming harder to find, thus if you want a really nice one to keep, consider paying a premium for the right one. If you are just looking for daily driver, then find one for less that is less than perfect condition. I would prefer to pay a premium for low mileage than less money and spend the money saved putting in new parts. If you are looking for appreciation, then the best way to go is original.
My opinion is not totally based on “hot air”, since I have a mint condition 85 SE with 40K in totally original condition and I get semi frequent inquires and informal offers of between $6K and $7K. It would take an offer of at least $7K for me to even consider selling mine.

The one that I'm considering is 82,000 miles -- and asking $5500. I believe that price is way too high. My gut tells me $4500 is a fair price, and I'm not factoring the time of year.
