What will my exhaust sound like?

I'm looking for some predictions, just for the hell of it. I've got a RB 2 into 1 header going back to a rusted out stocker. Sounds amazing on high end, but is pretty ratty down low. I just ordered a slant cut twin pipe RB muffler. My setup will be like this.

RB 2-1 Header>2" Cat Delete pipe>Stock connecting pipe>Twin Pipe RB muffler

Most of the RBs I see run pre-silencers. They usually sound too quiet and really smooth/snomobiley sounding. I have a history of loud exhausts, so this will be a change for me. I'm hoping that since I'm going without the presilencers and I have the twin tube muffler, which supposedly is a bit louder and flows more, that I'll be able to avoid getting something too quiet and get something more agressive sounding. Also, does anybody think I could pick up some power by going with some better tubing in between the headers and the muffler?

im not sure how she'll sound honestly. ive been running a full RB system up until this year. consisting of a 2-1 header, presilencer, stock mid-section then a dual in/out RB muffler. i assume yours will sound similar...just louder. but then again, the sound of the intake pulses from my OER carb usually drowned out the exhaust anyway

Do you have any sound samples of yours? I've heard that the presilencer is what cuts down on the brap and rasp, so if thats true I'll like having a bit more of a rappier exhaust.

BTW-I know the obvious answer is to just wait until I get my muffler, but I'd like to see the opinion of the forum first. I'll be sure to get sound samples when I get mine going.

I think you'll be happy with it. I love my set up. I have the RB dual outlet header collected and straight piped back to the RB single inlet power pulse muffler. It's a little bit louder than stock driving around town(mine is raspy due to crappy piping and a leak in a weld) but she wails and sounds beautiful in the secondaries. I also have the RB air box so that helps it sound sweet too. I want to eventually do the same set up as you, essentially an RB street port exhaust minus the presilencers.

Mine won't be like the street port setup, I have the collected header, that goes from 2 into 1 tube. The RB muffler sounds like it really does alot to the sound, cuz I can't hear that distinctive high pitched ping I've gotten ever since I've put on my header. Before my header I really dug the sound of my car, but volume went up significantly-everywhere. I don't mine the volume when I'm screaming it.

Gotcha, I misunderstood. The RB muffler definitely does it's job very well and keeping noise levels down when needed. When I got that yellow SA it had the RB header straight piped back to the stock muffler and not only was it loud but it just resonated something terrible. It actually sounded good inside the car but outside was terrible. Of course it wasn't as loud as my FB on open header hahaha

What? I tried figuring out the routing, but it looks like it collects just before exiting the hood, goes over the hood to the drivers side and points at the drivers face. Might even be inside the car...

Geez dude, you must really like rotaries

Na, only some blue and a hell of a lot more black haha. The return check valve was clogged so it cause excess fuel pressure and would flood upon shutdown. It still runs rich now but only because it's an SA carb.

EDIT: Just for reference, here is what a 12A sounds like with an RB header straight piped back to the stock muffler

Thanks guys. Well I got it in the other day. I got to hand it to RB, they make heavy duty ****, and it was a clean install. The sound I'm not too sure about. Granted I haven't been able to drive it yet, only rev it up in the garage a few times. Its really smooth, really mellow, and really quiet. I'll have to see what I think about it. I'll get a sound clip up as soon as it is practical.

Under load in the secondaries it gets much louder trust me haha. What kinda of air box do you have? If you open it up with like the RB box or ISC Racing box, something other than stock it sounds that much sweeter

Right now I'm rocking a modded nikki with the stock air box, but I have an RB Holley kit under my work bench that will be going in this summer. It'll have the standard RB Box. I'm going to race my car a few times before I put in the holley just to see what kind of difference it makes, on the drag track and on the auto-X course.

So does anybody think I could benefit from different mid sections? I had a 'professional' V8 tuner over the other day and he was telling me (among other things...) how bad the center sections of my exhaust are. Between the RB header and the RB muffler I have a 2" straight pipe going to the stock Y pipe. He says that they are far too small and will be holding me back. I know they aren't perfect, but RB said that they got no benefit from making the Y pipe bigger. I think for the amount of power I might get out of it wouldn't be worth it.

He only says that cause he's used to V8's. 2" pipe will work just fine for a stock port.
