what will i need

i have an 84-gsl-se and of course you know that it's fuel injected(well originally.) since ive had it, i went with an old school approach and did the whole holley carb and street port thing, but i also completely got rid of the entire wire harness from my computer. for the time being it all works fine cause everything is pretty much mechanical. but im starting to get board of that set up and want to go with an efi throttle body and a MICROTECH computer to run fuel and ignition. my question is, since i dont have any harness at all what will i need if i go ahead and buy that new ECU, or does the computer cover all of that.

Learn to wire a motor or find a wiring harness and adapt it to the new ECU.

Not that familiar with the Microtech, but with the proper harness for the engine, you should have most of what you need in regards to wiring, you will need sensors, throttle body etc.. You will also need to obatai an FI intake system and I would sugfst finding one from an S4. It flows better and has 2 more injectors, unless you prefer using the older SE system.

I don't know how much support there is for MegaSquirt there, but it's much cheaper and more tuneable when it comes time to tweak those last few ponies out of the engine.

when you say propper harness for the engine, do you mean an entire harness off of another gsl-se ????? my stock ecu is still in the car the harness has just been cut at the fire wall........ pretty shitty ........

what type of TB are you going to use?

the wire harness you have on the motor now will more or less be fine you will just have to add the wires you need... caz the microtec is not a plug and play... and if it was they woudlint make 1 for a 1st gen if you are planing on staying NA for a bit you can get a TB that will bolt to your holley intake... or if you are creative you can make an upper intake manifold to hook to the holley and use a single Tb... more details of the set up you are dreaming about to help you out

more details..........ok......well, im going with the efi set up from www.tweakit.net . my 13b six port is already street ported but im going to upgrade to a bridge. im also planning on completely re doing the fuel system to include surge tanks, pumps, pressure regulators, injectors ect ect. depending on what part of the world your from, this set up is actually not so much a dream set up but pretty common.

Since you are starting with an SE, and it doesn't sound like you're going turbo, your fuel tank should already have the built in FI sump cup and you may not need a surge tank. I have a thread in the archives that shows the differences between the FI and carbed S3 fuel tanks.

Since you're rebuilding the engine, I would ditch the 6-port end irons and build it as a 4-port. You can pull more hp out of a 13B 4-port than you can a 6-port. The only reason for keeping the aux ports would be to gain a bit more low end torque, at the expense of top end hp. If you keep the SE center iron, you can also keep the stock primary injectors and add a pair of staged secondarys with the Tweak-it kit.

i was told to go with 12a bridged irons and keep everything else. as for any stock injectors or what ever.......there is nothing left on my engine that was originally there........all i have is the street ported block, holley carb, exhaust, and ignition source, THATS IT lol....yeah , its pretty illegal but the state that my car is in doesnt care. so since my engine bay is pretty much stripped of EVERYTHING to include harness, sensors, connectors ect ect, thats why im wondering what i would need to make this electronic set up work. like i said, the stock ECU is still in the car, but cut at the fire wall, yeah im probably going to keep it N/A since i can get sooo much HP out of a bridge, and the reason why i went with a bare engine bay is because i love the simplicity. so going turbo in the future really is not something im looking foward to since turbos to me are far from simple. here's some pics of my engine bay.
