85 gsl, 12a.

when i rev past 5000 rpm, i get this weird metallic rining noise that seems to be coming from the engine bay. it gets exponentially louder untill it becomes quite frigtening at about redline.

what could this be? i still have the stock clutch fan... could that be it?

 

Do you still have an air control valve?

 

As weird as this sounds... replace your belts, i had the same ringing that went away as soon as i replaced my belt.

 

The stock clutch fan isn't quite a ringing. Its more like a whoosh of air. Of course, the fan CLUTCH is there to prevent it from spinning above a certain RPM, since that will stop being effective, and start slowing your engine down. My clutch fan noise is a combination of the tornado whirring, and the belt starting to squeal.

 

That's not your clutch fan, i had an e-fan and still had that whooshing noise and metalic ring as he described it.... both of you replace your belts.

 

I had the -exact- same thing happen to me. Sounds like glass bell ringing. Its was the belts.

i have a sound.. when im doing 100 at first gear..

but i dunno if i can call it "ringing" exactly....


but it is something differnt..

people just said it was the rotary engine

 

Kind of sounds like a tapping? it's hard to describe... every strange noise i've heard from under my hood has been belt related... ac compressor was out, made strange noises, took it out, cleared that problem, then another came up, replaced the belt and everything is fine, no strange noises under the hood.
