What wheels? What tires? What size?

After extensive looking, I am about to take delivery of a sharp 1st Gen in the next week or so. I had been loking at an SE, but settled for a nice GSL with only 54,000 miles.

However, I forgot about the wheel issue with the non-SE models. So, I've started to look.... the only wheel that I have found is the Kosei R1 wheel. Are there any other worthwhile choices?

Also, what size works well? I've been told that 15x7 wheels with 205-15/50 tires is the best combo on a first gen. Any thoughts? Thanks!!!

I am personally buying the Kosei K1 wheel. 15x7.
Have heard wonderful things about this wheel.
Weighs just over 11lbs. And I thingk it looks pretty good. $149 @ WWW.Tirerack.com
The other wheel I have considered was the Panasport 16x7. Classic good looks in a big wheel sixe. Looks Fantastic. $225 @ WWW.Kspeed.com/id3.htm

I have been so happy with my 15x7 Panasports with 205-50-15 rubber! I get a lot of comments on them. I got them on ebay luckly, cuz there pricey.

As far as tires, I'm due for some new ones. The Toyo Proxes FZ4 's that came with the wheels felt pretty good. Looking around the tirerack website, I think that the bridgestone potenza SO3 PP 's look like the best deal.

The only thing that sucks is that now I'm holding back on upgrading to the better gsl-se suspension becouse of the different bolt pattern.

this topic oughta be made a permanent part of the forum header, along with what bolt patterns the 1st gen has.

I think you're right Mantis. I know the pattern, but I can't believe the only options are the Panasport and the K1 wheels. Damn! I should have bought the -SE instead of the GSL!

Damn, those snypers are bad. how much are they and where can you buy them? This should definatly be a sticky. Are there any other bbs style wheels that fit besides the 14 stock ones?

JDwheels just emailed me back saying that they are sold out of any 4x110mm wheels and dont plan on getting anymore through there importer for at least 6mo. So, no ones getting the snypers.

Damn! I would have drove to Sidney to get them in a 4x110 pattern.

Finding the "right" wheel is going to be a task... I should have bought the -SE!

They are custom made, drive to Sydney and you will be able to get them no worries. Any width and any offset you want.

These ones cost me $3200AUD with decent falken tyres.

Isn't $3200 AUD about $1000 USD? It may be worth the drive! Of course, i'd need new tires by the time I got back. And the Rex doesn't paddle oceans too well.

Does the custom maker have a web site or e-mail address? Maybe they will ship them... thanks!!!

in fact, just do a search - seems there's one of these "what wheels fit..." threads posted weekly.

I've seen cars online with unmodified hubs (read 12A engined, 110mm hubs) running the Enkeis. I'll see if I can source out a set for ya

The Snypers are made by ROH.

There are some good options from Japan too. Mostly older/used wheels, but some new ones too. The SSR MK-II come to mind.

EDIT:
Custom drilling is an option too.
