yeap but I have been running B8EVs and B9EVs for years these are much better for ported engines and/or engines with carb mods and timing advance. They don't last that much, but are much better (in performance sense) and cheaper than the OEM ones.

About the non specific sparkplugs used that is just bad!!! I hope that mechanic paid for the repairs.

BR8EQ-14s in both my 13Bs. I'm not sure what to run in my '73 12A yet (still gotta rebuild it, hehe).

inittab, I've got an older set of BR9EQ-14s from an SE that are still good enough to reuse if need-be. That's interesting speculation about Trailing needing a cooler plug. If an engine is currently running well with 8s and I put 9s in the Trailing holes, how do you think it will run? I'm affraid to mess with a good thing, but I also like to experiment.

Hey, if you've got 'em give it a try. After running them I found that the trailing plugs weren't as white when I pulled them out. YMMV

Thanks! I found this pic on the net BUT that Coz looks exactly like the one I owned. Same color too. And the funny thing is the color wasn't stock. I had mine painted dark blue... the stock blue color was a much lighter blue. When I saw the pic I thought "Man! That's my car." Hey, maybe it is?!

 

That color looks darker than my Cosmo.

I never use anything but NGK,s in my fleet of First Generation RX7,s [BR8EQ] and I.ve been an TX7 owner since 1991. "way up north here in Northeastern Ontario, Canada the weather is extremely cold in winter and with few exceptions I've never had much trouble starting and running all year 'round. I did try some Champions once and wasn't impressed. BTW in Canada we pay $12/plug

i been not to use the single electrode plugs as they can snap of and f&@# the rotor and housing up..

i use the denso 4 electrode ones..

 

So what plugs came stock in the SE then?

 

NGK in my RX-7, 90 Toyota 4x4, and eventually in my 02 Toyota 4x4. They make a huge difference in my Truck as compared to the other plugs I have tried.

The only place in town that actually carries the plugs for my SE was the Dealer and he was cheaper than some of the "we can order that" quotes.

 

though i'm not attacking the validity of the advice you were about using single electrode plugs ... i just want to point out that in the past, i used to burn electrodes (sometimes 1, sometimes 2 ) off the stock plugs (with 4 electrodes) when i was playing around with my ignition setups ...

by the way, they never messed up the housings either.

I flipped to these a few years ago and found they lasted much longer than the stock 1st gen plugs. These are the 2nd/3rd gen platinum's - more money but worth it IMO

Just wanted to give you an update: I bought a set of BR8EQ's and drove the car for a while. It seems like the engine warms up much faster with the 8's than it did with the 9's. It still stays at the same temperature.

 

BR9EQ's in my race car and BR8EQ's in my street car, I agree the price is steep but I haven't heard of anyone making a more compatable plug. I once....ONCE used ND's never again
