What is this thing near my gas tank?

When I was installing my fuel lines this morning I noticed something that I couldn't recognize. There's three lines coming from the tank. One goes to the fuel pump, one kinda ends (near the meeting of the fuel pump line and tank line mentioned first), and the other leads to a little white pump looking thing. I have no idea what this thing is. Since it has a spot for another line to attach, I'm guessing (it really is just a guess) that the second line from the tank attaches to it, but why would there be a circular system leaving and returning to the tank?

Please enlighten me. TIA

Its like some sortta check valve. Its to alleviate pressure in the tank...

ok underneath your car in the saem area are the fuel pump, fuel filter, and a fuel cut valve. the line runs from the tank to the filter, to the pump to the valve, to the front of the car. there are two lines running back into thte tank from the front of the car, they are the ventilation and check valve line and the fuel return line.

That's the rollover cutoff switch - it cuts fuel when the car turns over.

Okay, I'm going to go ahead and say that this is the vent line. Thanks for the responses guys. Appreciate it, as always.

Ive seen a few in the junkyard It does happen, but cant be the cars fault LOL

Also seen one once that was hit by a train, in 14 years of junkyard shopping for RX-7 parts IVE NEVER seen one look like a stomped and twisted on beer car. This car was FU&KED, might get a good front rotor off it, but that'd be about it!
