What are these wiring connectors under the shifter trim?

It's been too long guys, please refresh my memory. I used to know what this was for a couple years ago, but I have since forgotten. I found this wiring underneath the shifter trim plate and it wasn't connected to anything (my car is a 5 spd). I am going to guess and say that the two small bullet connectors are illumination for the automatic shifter if equipped? What is the plastic 4-plug connector for? This is on a 1985 GS.

Help me out fellas.

Thanks,
Jamie

i'll take a stab at it and say it's probably got to do with the neutral safety switch. probably other stuff too but not sure since i've never owned an automatic.

its the lights for the automatic shifter. NEVER EVER hook the two together, as without the resistance of the light bulb it will blow the dimmer.

Ok, so the black and red are for the shifter lights. What is the 4-plug white connector for?

Red/green, Black, Green Yellow, Brown wires. That would be the overdrive switch connector for auto tranny.

Ahhh! Well done guys. I totally forgot about the overdrive switch for the auto trans. As far as the carpet goes, I owe its appearance to a little trick that I developed. It was really nasty when I bought the car. If you want to freshen it, then remove it from the car and take it to the DIY car wash. Turn the pressure washer onto the soap setting and spray the crap out of it. The brown dirt will come ROLLING out of it. Keep spraying until it comes out clean. Then switch over to rinse and rinse out all the soap. Take it home and throw it on your driveway out in the sun until its dry. After it is dry vacuum it to bring the fluff back. Reinstall.

i've heard good things about the car wash method. the carpet in my 85 GSL with gray interior is full of sand. it was originally purchased in FL, and i am always finding white sand, no matter how much i clean and vacuum.
