What are the symptoms of a bad coolant seal?

I think I might have a coolant seal thats starting to go. Any other symptoms other than the white smoke? How about sputtering from idle and then clearing up at about 3000rpm? It still idles.

Thanks, Ed

Isn't there something to do with oil in the coolant? Check your puke tank.

From the symptoms you describe, there is a possibility that the carb is tuned poorly, and the 6-ports are clearing it up.

White smoke could mean fuel too. Does it smell sweet like coolant burning? Are you leaking coolant (ie. the overfloe tank is draining or getting air bubbles)

If it's fuel related, then you are running too rich at idle and then when the revs come up, it could be smoothing out due more air being introduced.

I started it and let idle with the rad cap off and as soon as it started I saw bubbles girgling in the rad. Idled it for till it reached normal temp and shut it off. After maybe an hour i wnet to check on it and my upper rad hose was collasped and sucked in.

Thanks, Ed

After maybe an hour I went to check on it and my upper rad hose was collasped and sucked in. I noticed it took a lot longer to warm up too. At normal temp I felt my upper manifold and it was still cold.

Well, Do you have to keep adding coolant to the radiator? That would be the easiest telltale sign.

the bubbles when you start it up is a pretty good give away. there shouldnt be any pressure untill its warm, so if there are bubbles when its cold then that coolant is giong somewhere that isnt good. sorry man, looks like you need a rebuild pretty damn soon

Unhappy

ahhh, this makes me sad. if this is the engine I sold you, that's surprising, because it gave me no trouble at all.

you are running a carb instead of the stock EFI, so lets hope this could be "tuned" out.

have you been driving it long? how many kms have you put on the engine?

let me know how things go.
Leigh

Hey Leigh! Yeah this is the engine. Havent been driven much. I took it up to Mississauga once and the rest was just tuning around here. I guess my plans to boost it goes on hold.

Thanks, Ed
