OK, I have decided that my Limited Ed. SA is not going to sell.
So now I am in a quandary.
In an effort to keep her original I have relaced nothing. Seeing now that an LE has no apparent value to anyone but me, do I say "screw it" and just rebuild everything I want to rebuild (weight reduction, more power, etc.), or do I stick it out and keep it in the condition its in.
You can see her here: http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrow...selected=35592

If I do decide to rebuild, does anyone have an engine suggestion?

If it really has only 43,000 miles then you really need to preserve it. Even I will concede that down the road in a decade or two, such a car will be invaluable to all the people who still have old RX-7s and are arguing about how they came from the factory. There will be a buyer eventually who will give you your price. Ya just gotta wait...

Exactly.....
You own the RX7 that should be the first to start showing increasing value since it is a limited production from the first year on the market.
If you want to build a Rex, if you can, I suggest you preserve this jewel and go buy a second FB to build. Try and find a 1984-85 for the tweeked suspension, swap out the oil cooler (if not an SE) to a 79-80 type, and strip away on that not so rare baby.
If you strip that jewel, I'm sure you will be cursed with a Yugo (or worse.... a Honda) in your next life.

Dude, in my opinion, what you're asking for the car is a bit too much. But, don't get me wrong, if I were in your shoes, I'd be just as attached to it and wouldn't want to let it go for a lower price. Keep it. Restore it. It's really nice and there aren't too many of those left.

Wow, I wouldn't pay anywhere near 2,000 for an Rx-7 just because most of them are left outside and rot out in places where you wouldn't notice. When this happens, the car's days are numbered, unless you want to dump some serious time and money into it.
They said the same thing about 302 Z-28s. They're only good for racing and will never be worth anything beyond that. Even up to the mid-80s, they could be had for $1500 and then the speculators descended. Even though prices have come down drastically, these 33 year old cars are still in the $17,000 range. Not all rexs will be worth something, but what he has, if the mileage can be documented and it stays original will head in the same direction with a little time...guaranteed...his problem was advertising in eBay or autotrader where all the cheapskates dwell looking for cheap buys...he needs to go to an auction like Barrett's or Chrisitie's to get the car's true worth...
Lets look at some numbers.
Intro year:
67 Camaro: 220,906
78 RX-7: 19,299
79 RX-7: 54,853
Peak year:
79 Camaro: 282,571
86 RX-7: 72,760 (possibly 56,243. I'm finding two different figures)
Low year:
90 Camaro: 34,986
95 RX-7: 1,399

Nice looking car. I say do what you will to it, though, provided you can afford the time and money to do it right. If not, sell it to someone that can. That way it remains a classic in some regard and isn't badly modded or run into a wall.
Out of curiousity, what brakes came on that car? Were they bigger wedge-type disks up front or bigger drums out back? Just wondering.
