What is this sensor?

The circled sensor broke when I tried to remove it from the 13B 6 port I'm rebuilding...can anyone tell me what it's for?

Hmmm...I thought water temp came off the water pump housing like in this picture...what is this one for?

that is the coolant temp gauge. just looked it up in the book.

the thing threaded into the water pump is the water thermo sensor.
