What octane gas??

I'm new to this forum.... Seriously thinking about aquiring a 84' GSL 12A. Just wanted to know what octane gas to put in it for best performance. 87, 89, or 93? I used to own an 82' GSL and used to use mid grade 89 or 93, then couple of years later I read somewhere (can't memba where) that carbed rotaries like lower octane gas.
Thanx for replies.

Unless turbo, 87 will do.

N/A rotarys will actually run much better on octane that is even lower octane than 87. Rotary racers actually have special low octane fuel brought in specifically for them.

The only reason why you would need high octane is if you were running turbo or really high compression

Nearly 20 years ago, the seasoned service manager at Hunter Mazda in Tupelo, Mississippi told me to use the cheapest gas I could find, because the engine didn't require high octane. Then he said, "and if there's a drop or two of water in it, that won't hurt at all either... a little bit every now and then is good for it".

Hope you're still kicking, Tom.

My butt-dyno has noticed slightly (very slight) better performance when I happen to be near a place that still has 86 octane.

or just in it ( but not too much ).

seriously, I wouldn't advocate TRYING to decrease my regular unleaded octane.

lol. Ok, ok...i'm sorry. Got a little carried away...but I agree with D. Grimes. I think 87 is mighty fine, knowing you should have some high octane ONCE in a while to keep the 7 peppy. Go talk to the gas stations around your area and see if they have a special delivery for lower octane *Shrug*....
