What kinda of turbo can I use on my car?

I was on Ebay, and I found quite a few turbos (Holsets, Audi, Garret, etc) that are used/rebuilt for a decnt price, and I was wondering how I go about finding the right one? I know with a carb, you have to calculate some stuff to know how big of one to get, do you have to do anything like that with a turbo? How do you know what size and stuff? What are the ratios and stuff they measuer the turbos with? Websites? Help me...Please

yes ... you have to do research in order to find the right size to fulfill your needs. it can be a long and quite complicated process, especially if you have to learn the parts and terms as you go along.

at any rate, look into maybe using the Mazda/Hitachi (i think???) one that the T2 uses, because it may save you some troubles you may run into with an off the shelf unit. just a thought ...

on this site, heh, beats the snot out of me ... maybe the Gen II forum or single-turbo forum.

you can try general Internet searches on:

Corky Bell
Cartech
maybe even call up Mazdatrix or Racing Beat

I also know that they have turbo discussions day and night on the www.mr2.com forum. the only thing there is that a lot of those guys are rich ******, so ... proceed with caution!

if none of these ideas work, then let us know, i'll try to look up some of the links i used to help for my turbo research. i just can't remember any of them off the top of my head.

go for a garrett 60mm compressor wheel and around a .80 to 1.00 a/r that will be plenty big enough and flow more than youll need

ok, after reading that site, i'm thinking of going turbo on my gsl-se.

Which would be easier/cheaper, rebuilding, street porting, and custom turbo'ing my 6 port 13b from the car, or rebuilding, porting, and upgrading a turbo 2 turbo engine?

Either way it will cost you at least 5 grand. What is cheep to you? I have 5500 into a car that doesn't run yet, just need to buy a haltech (hmm the new E-11 sounds very tempting) and get a custom driveshaft made and I can drive it.... well after I make my damn manifold oh yeah also need a BOV and a wastegate. I'm sure I'll have 8k into this before I'm done. But then I'll have a very unique car, don't see many FB's running around more less FB's that have a custom turbo 13B-RE under the hood

Ok, so forget turbo. LOL.

How about just rebuilt, street ported 13b 6 port, w/ upgraded clutch, oil, and fuel system.

Would that be significantly easier? I'm not going for the fastest car in the world, just 2nd to that! (no just kidding)

My goal is a rice masher. Something that takes things that start with "Hon" and end with "duh" and eat them for lunch. Even the ones who use the name "S2000".

Whadya think.

i think you can mash out all the ricers if you get a nice streetport 13B (if you can build a 4-port engine, i tend to think you'd be slightly better off - but the 6-port is no slouch)

let's put it like this ... you won't be unbeatable, but it won't be a ricer H-car that beats you, it'll be a racer!
