The red top sat for almost a year before I got my '80 rebuilt again and on the road. I got an amazing discount from the store because I was their UPS driver at the time...all it needed was an over night charge and she was ready to go...been three or so years since then, no problems at all, even though it suffered 3 total discharges in a row before I replaced the alternator. The big advantage is being able to mount them into the interior of a car WITHOUT having to worry about charging gasses coming from the battery when the car is running. No isolator box necessary and you can mount it upside down if you feel like it with no worries...try that with a Diehard... The yellow top I got for free as a going away gift when I got "bumped" off the So. Cooper St. route...
