What Kinda Of Battery Do You Use

Just wondering what kind of battery y'all use in your cars. My 85 GSL needs a new one, and I was wondering what I should get. Thanks

Optima Marine Deep Cycle. The marine battery also have a secondary set of small terminals which is very handy to add addtional connections without having to mess the main terminals... $180.00

Yes. but you have to modify the hold down bar because of the way the top of the battery is designed. I have an Optima red top in the stock location for the fans and regular car electrics and an Optima yellow top in the "bin" area (since '80's don't actually come with a bin, I cut through the panel with a Rotozip...) for the car stereo, cap and amps...

I got the OPTIMA "red top". It looks good and works good. If you look at the picture the battery is right behind the pass. seat. http://my7.rx-7.org/Paul/images/Paul-BatteryRear3.jpg

Now I'm wishing the '80 cars had bins. There's a bracing bar that doesn't allow you to mount the battery straight up and down like you've got in the picture of your '84...luckily, the Optimas don't care if they're mounted at weird angles...

I have the "red one." Bought it off my friend for $5 after he had it sitting for 8 yrs or some stupid **** like that. It finnally wont recharge over like8-9 volts It wont turn my car over, but it can play the radio. I wonder if there is a rebuild kit or something? LATERZ,
Andrew

Not for an Optima, Andrew, sorry to break the news. The six "cells" are tightly wound coils with suspended gel that is permanently sealed at the factory. You might call or Email Optima to see if they'll repack the battery, but I'm pretty sure they won't send you fresh "cells" and the gel so you can do it yourself...

Mmmm... I feel left out... I just got a cheap-o Wal-Mart brand (Everlast) battery!
Sadly, I can't afford a $180 battery

Just have a good buddy driving an old Prelude waiting at the door as you run out of your local Battery Store with the jacked items in hand...no problemo... I'm joking, of course...

I think that from sitting since October without being charged made my DieHard, Die Hard...

Oh well, It's under warranty.

Replace it and when I have the cash, get the Optima.

What's the difference between the Red top and Yellow top as I saw one in my friend's Maxima.

The red top is your normal auto battery. The yellow top is a deep cycle design so it will tolerate discharges to low volts easier than the red top. The amp hours are higher for the yellow top which is why it's a good choice for running big amps while parked...

Interstate. Only way I'll get an Optima is if I get it for free. To hell with paying that much for a damn battery.

I stole a red top out of one of the trucks at my brothers work, but it had a dead cell from sitting for years.

Tell me about it, it was the starting battery on an F250 with a Powerstroke diesel, meaning it was up under the airbox. Makes it a pain to get out.

Went and got the key out of the office. We were out there doing burnouts in one of the F250's that had a 460 gas burner in it.
