What kind of ignition system is this?

Hello, I was surfing threads and I ran across this ignition system where they are running only one coil wire to the dist with two plug wires running to the spark plugs and then another set of coils that run to the other two plugs. What is the benefits of this. I tried to attach the picture. Hope I did it correctly.

2nd gen leading coil from 86-91 models. Do a search with the term 2GCDFIS. There are many threads on this mod.
