you could use a couple of pieces of 2X6's as extensions
for the ramps,,cut them as long as needed..
also to work under the car use cinder blocks,,or good jack stands,,i've used cinder blocks,,4 a side, with a
piece of 2 x 6 as long as my car,and drove the car
up on the blocks,it acts kinda like a pit,,when the car
is on it,remove the 2 center blocks to gain access.
the car is supported at the 4 corners under the tires
it works good

I use jack stands. Can't work on the wheels or brakes with ramps.

well duh i use stands, but i was wondering if someone knows where i can get a good jack that will actually get under my car.
about that cinder block thing, that seems like it would tip over, unless im thinkin you have the blocks so they are tall, i guess if you put em so you only got like 8 inches instead of over a foot of clearance it would be steady enough

I can't get the jack under the front of my car either... so I drive it up onto a couple pieces of timber first. Problem solved.

ditto what revhed said. But when I put springs and the correct tire size I hope to solve this. Otherwise I am getting a lower profile jack then my craftsman.

How much do you want to spend on this jack? The ones I have seen have been pretty high dollar.

Here's a pricey one from Longacre.

I used a 2 ton jack before , if you put it under the front wheel, and position it on the point where the strut stay rod connects to, you lift the car up a few inches, then it bows the tires inward, then remove the jack and it will go through the front Thats what I always did and it works

Why can't any of you fit a jack under your car? The 2 ton jack I have fits right under on all sides. I have original springs so my car is pretty low. What's with the rest of you? Lowered to ground or what?

You could also use the scissor jack that came with the car.

My jack fits under all of my cars but the -SE, all with stock springs. I think it has sagged more, and it has 185/60/14's instead of taller 205's.

I did just put a set of tokico blues on it, That raised it less then my 83 did when I put blues on it. I think becaused they were not new, but already broken in.

I thought you were saying you used ramps cause you couldn't get the jack under the car. I didn't realize you drive up on the ramps to jack the car up.

I can get my 2 ton under all sides, I know for a fact because I just took the engine out and Ive had the car up and down a million times now. Both my 83 GSL and my 84 GS have no problem fitting it under, all stock. I jacked mine up, and put 4 jack stands under it on the frame rails, two in front, two in the back, and then put milk crates (yes, the plastic milk crates) under each tire so it cant tip in any direction. The jack stands arent even really necessary because, believe it or not, plastic milk crates will hold the entire weight of the car, even if the front of the car is accidently dropped on them (ask me how I know). They are a lot stronger than they look .

You can also take a cheap 2-ton jack to the shop and make it about an inch shorter. All you need to do is cut the sides down at an angle (1 inch up front to zero in the back), weld on some 1/2' angle iron to support it and re-locate the wheels 1 inch high.

Good luck
