What Intercoolers fit easily in a 1st gen?

Exactly what the title says, which intercoolers will be good to throw in a 1st gen w/ turboII motor in it? I hear things about the volvo 740 intercoolers being good, but they seem awful big to fit without a lot of hassle. If you can, provide pics of the install of it.

what to do for piping also?

Goin through the links in the sticky thread...

Intercooler ID page, with dimensions.

BTW, the NPR is dollar for dollar the best IC out there.

I have been wondering the same thing.

I looked at the Griffin Intercoolers that enter and exit on the same side, or top-to-bottom flow instead of side to side.

To me that is what I need to get, but I have seen others with regular side-to-side intercoolers mounted on their 1st gen.

Thanks for the link, but can you use the side-to-side set-up without moving the battery?

I tossed a grand national ic in mine pretty fast, but my battery has been moved. I will be swapping to a NPR here in the next month though.

I believe eddie rotary mounted the small one with the battery in place. But no A/C.

I have the large one mounted differently.

DF, how did you run the pipes by the battery (or is it relocated?

isnt lag going to be an issue with an IC that big?

Battery is relocated to passenger's side bin. HOWEVER, I kept a battery post in the stock battery location. This means I only had to run ONE wire for the battery relocation. Plus, if I have to jumpstart the car, it can be done under the hood

The NPR intercooler has less than 1 lb PSI in pressure drop (which is awesome). I have been in several cars using TWO Large NPR IC's, welded together. They are awesome.

yeh I did, but I wanted too anyways,

Im trying to keep my engine bay super simple and clean.

I have a optima redtop in the passenger bin, Im using the stock starter cable and a hyperground kit.

Looks super clean.

Im still figuring out the mounting, the volvo intercooler has no mounts on it. But, its fits in that spot (picture) so perfect, I dont think I need to mount it.

the top front of the engine bay and the belly pan hold it in place, Im going to put some sort of foam on the sides to help seal it and reduce any noise.

Ill have pics in a week or so when the engine goes in.
