What is the hole in the bottom of the fuel bowl?

Hey guys. I was cleaning out my fuel bowls when I noticed that there was a lot of junk in the wells in the bottom of the bowl. These wells are highlighted in the image below. While I was able to get most of the stuff out of them, I was curious what they're used for. Are there passages down there that I need to make sure are cleaned? If not, then are the wells to catch junk? Thank you!

Pretty sure they are leftover from when there were "power valves" (or something like that) on the SA Nikkis. I filled mine with "Steel Stik" so that I don't have to struggle to fish out the jets when they slip out of my grip at the dyno.

Ah ok that makes sense. I think I'll leave them since they were doing a great job of collecting dirt in the fuel. Thank you for your help!
