What the hell? This is wierd!

Trying to start a flooded RX-7 (12a)...

Used the ATF trick that has worked so many times before... You know, 1 ounce in each barrell, pump a few times, pull choke and push pedal to ground... crank, start, don't breathe for several minutes. ;0)

Anyways... The carb barrell (big one) has liquid in it up to and OVER the top of the jets!

Can the rotor housing get so flooded that it comes up into the carb? I stopped right there, adn haven't tried to pull plugs yet. (I will soon.)

Anyone ever seen this happen? The car RAN FINE last time I looked at it... It's not mine, but I am thinking about picking it up as a Daily Driver...

HELP!!!

Is there a "quick" way to fix this so I can drive it from one location to another before fixing it for good?

I agree - sound like the floats are stuck. Remove the spark plugs, and let it spin freely with them out.

Clean them and put them back in. Remove the bowls and make sure the floats are not stuck.

Then Push start the car at higher speed - over 20 mph, and dump the clutch in 2nd or 3rd gear.

Good luck.

I couldn't have said it better myself!

Why oh why oh why do people still insist on doing stupid things like ATFing a spinning engine?

reason being that when my motor flooded out, it wouldnt build enough compression. Added a smaller amount of ATF. (no 4 ounces or anything crazy) Put everything back together. Cranked it. Fired up fine.

1 ounce ATF down each barrell will unflood an RX-7 if it's not badly flooded. I did this under direction of the experts at Rotaty Performance. It did appear that the engine was flooded, which is why I did it...

See this article: http://www.rx7.com/techarticles_unflood12A.html

hey. take a screw driver and with the handle give the top of the float bowls a good whack. that will usually unstick the floats. also check the the wiring under the gas intake of the carb. if the black wire is disconected the carb will just keep flooding nomatter where the floats are. good luck.
