Thumbs down What the hell is this new fad??

More and more now i see people taking their hubcaps off and spraying the metal black, or spraying their stock rims black. Im seeing this more and more with these lil street ricers, and i saw it on a rx7 today and i wanted to cry. Anyone else been noticing this?

I powder coated a few sets of wheels for my car gloss black a few years ago.

Why is everyone trying to be like me?

Thats what I was thinking.Black wheels and recently flat black paint jobs have been around for quite a while.Gus were running black wheels up front and alloys out back 3-4 years ago, around here.

Sort of a rough-N-tough Mad Maxx type of thing.Trying to look like a rough drift or rallyX car.Black wheels have been big on 4X4s for a few years too.Cheap and tough.Ive got em on my Samurai.

My '+' rims have been black since the day we got the car! Black '+' rims with the "MAZDA" on them done in white, sporting tires with thin whitewalls

I like the look of my car... but who the hell flaunts their steelies?

the + wheels on my 83 S were corroded to hell, instead of wasting time restoring them I just shot them semi gloss black. Looks a lot better than it did. Ironically about half a year later I got another set of + wheels and ended up taking the time to restore them. Now the black wheels are only on for the winter. I like both looks.

Way before the widebody and engine, when my car was almost stock, I got the + wheels painted the same color white as the car. That was the beginning of my monochromatic years and I know it looked better than the stock gray paint and black caps with brown Mazda label on them.

My Rikens are black centered with polished lips. Been that way for 10+ years now...

My brother has some black 5 spoke lightweight wheels on his '93 Hatch that doesn't run, and it looks good. I like painted wheels, as long as it isn't a wild color. Polished gets boring after a while, and chrome is stupid and heavy.

What's wrong with painted wheels, man?

Damn dude...I remember when I painted the steel looking rims on my 93 Integra black without even knowing it was a fad, or something people did to make their cars look good. I just thought it might bring some ''badassness'' to the look of the car. Hell...I didn't even know what a JDM look was anyway lol....talk about ignorant...

So they take the ugly hubcaps off their wheels and spray paint their steelies black....Nothing wrong with that. Not everyone can afford expensive rims.

I am pretty sure that all stock honda steelies are black to start with, I know they are on my Civic. Heck I thought most late model steelies are black.
They are probably just tired of looking at the cheap hubcaps.
I know around here all the hondas that had nice rims on them are now sporting the stock black steelies for winter.

Later

I have allways loved the look of black wheels on my 4x4's. The jeep looked oh so sexy with the flat black wheels and black tires, black fender flares and baby **** brown paint job.

My F-150 is soon due for a pair of black steel shoes on it, just because I like them that way.

But, those ones it surves a purpose, if I'm out brush bangin and get them scratched to ****, you just pull them in the shop mask up around the tire and spray a new coat of flat black on them.

As far as sports cars go... it all depends upon execution.
