This is what happens after 20 minutes of lapping and why glass pack won't work :)

I was coming out of the track after doing about a 20 minute session, and as normal when I'm on for that long the Exhaust Overheat Light comes on. I never really bothered looking at the exhaust just figures it was getting a little too hot. But sunday on the track, a buddy told me to look at my muffler, I figured that I probably broke something again or something stupid like that but turns out my muffler was glowing orange lol and this was about 5 minutes after being off the track. I wish I had a video of the whole thing but it was glowing read from the headers all the way to back there. And I could even see the glowing under the header wrap lol ... pretty toasty

Here's a few pictures and a video:

that's cool! you take an FD up the mountain and the turbo is so hot you can see the studs/bolts that hold it all together...

Check your timing, just to be sure it's not retarded...

Bet it would look pretty cool for a night race, though.

pretty neat.

i used to enjoy seeing that after flogging the Rx-7 a bit. however, most recent experience with a glowing exhaust was not so welcome. apparently my Rx-8's ignition coils were unhappy with their job and quit, which led to a night glow from my dying cat.

My dad told me stories about glowing exhaust on RX7s in endurance races. He used to be on a team that raced a 240Z in various endurance races, and every on every rotary powered car the whole exhaust system would be glowing at night, bodies of the mufflers, piping, everything. You'll notice on most rotary powered race cars they use chains to suspend the exhaust, because they get hot enough to melt right through conventional hangers.

The timing is good, its just a whole lot of beating on it ... it could explain why people were slowing down and letting me pass infront of them at night time just to see this lovely phenomenom lol.

Supertrapp muffler without the diffuser discs on it. Probably packed full of ceramic furnace fiber or something else able to withstand the heat.
