Not to thread jack here but I am not sure this statement is correct. I got a 95 sportage front diff of ebay and I counted the splines when I put it into my rx7. This was 3 years ago but I am positive it was 4.77.

My pinion seal is currently leaking so I need to take it out anyway. Will double check.

Oh, I'm not saying I don't believe you. But for sure the diff I got is 4.77 and from a 95 so...

I did some internet snooping and found the real difference is SOHC vs DOHC motors, not the year.

Check out this amazing website: Very helpful in general.

SOHC Sportages = 4.44
DOHC Sportages = 4.77

Maybe this should be posted in the Kia Diff sticky as I could not find this info easily on any forum and is an important distinction.

Will any of these pumpkins (kia/b2200/etc.) swap directly into a 1979 rear axle or would I need to get a newer rx7 axle/ completely different axle?
