What is the fluid capacity for a 5 spd transmission?

What is the fluid capacity for a 5 spd transmission?

I'm trying to find out how much fluid a 83 5 speed tranny holds the FSM said 2.1 but my Haynes said 1.8???

Fill until the bottom of the fill hole. I usually do around 1.9 quarts.

i just double checked and yes, the FSM does state 2.1 qts. however, it usually takes about two quarts. the extra .1 of that 2.1 quarts is residual in the gearbox and you'll never be able to fully drain the trans. i like the get the car in the air and level before i start any refilling. i fill the trans until i can touch the fluid with the tip of my index finder when probing the fill hole. this is usually about two quarts.

I'd go with about 2.1 qts, judging from what those guys said. What you putting in there? And how'd you get it dry, is it brand new?

I've recently filled from dry and it spilled out at 1.8 quarts. so i rolled it around to get the gears saturated, then I quickly crammed the other .2 in as it started spilling out agian. Better safe than sorry, but, I don't think it's going to take mroe than 2 quarts.

Im putting in Amsoil 75-90. Im doing a swap from auto. And it all drained out when I pulled the engine and tranny out of my parts car and its been sitting for almost 2 months.
