What does *this* stuff do?
What does the mass of wires and hoses I have circled on my RX-7 do? My friends ITA race car has these removed. What do they do and will it benefit performance to remove them?

those are all the emissions crap, commonly refered to as the "Rats Nest" by alot of forum members.
Do a search, there are several recent posts about them, and removal

That's about what my engine bay looks like almost but I heard you can' t take a hose to it because of electrical. I have tried using a wash rag by hand which sucked and yeilded poor results. So tell me, can I get something specific to just lay into it with like degunk o funk and power spray it at the local carwash? It's an 85se.

It's called "Simple Green", hose with a pistol nozzle set to "stream" and either toothbrushes or sponges. You take it one section at a time. A little water on the exposed electrics won't harm anything. Just let it all dry before you crank it up again...

I've said it once and I'll say it again... someone needs to do a REAL writeup on how to remove the rats nest... simply saying "pull tubes" doesn't sit well with people....
A schematic, and lots of pix & info would do well...

On the whoel rats nest removal, if you really study the vacuum schematic for the thing it makes it whole lot easier.

Its fine to pull all that crap off. Just make sure you dont leave any vaccum lines open. Remove all the hoses you can and seal the connectors with RTV. Be careful you dont mess up the vaccum advances or anything
