Question what do you think my estimated hp is now?

okay here's my setup, i havent baseline dyno'd it cuz i dont have the money, but i am trying to get an estimation on what it has...

12a rebuilt
rb header to presilencer to rb power pulse muffler (straight pipe, no cats)
DLIDFIS (not for hp, for smoother idle, takeoff etc...)
mechanical secondaries w/ advanced timing
removed rats nest, cold start, cruise control and a/c
also spare tire/jack is removed at the moment, not that it matters...
rx7carl/pratch cold air intake mod w/ k&n filter
STILL STOCK CLUTCH FAN
and yeah i think thats about it... any ideas.

p.s. i'm not a noob, i'd search but i'm not sure what to look for since everyone's setups are unique...

thanks in advance...

-renz

Is the motor ported? If so think you should do a fair bit better than that. My last motor was flagged out mild port did 110 at the wheels.

Cheers Sue

i dont think you get much power from the air intake mod weve all read about the flapper mod as a cfm restriction i took the air restrictoin a step further and it is free if you have access to a dremel is to cut rectangle sized patches out of the sides of the canister allowing more air volume all around instead of just though a 3 in diameter hole i noticed instant throtle response and my butt dyno was impressed. and i didnt have to buy a damn thing

Power to weight. The RX-7 seems down on power even with modifications until you consider that its a 2500lb car with all the goodies.

The RX-7 may lose at the drag strip, but go find a park with some nice bendy roads to play in and you will stomp all over other cars simply because you don't have to slow down as much for turns and can carry your speed through.

i think these guys are shortchanging you by 5-10hp. i have a set of headders straight back to a WRX muffler, no ratsnest, ac,air pump, cold start etc...

my intake is portted an pollished...my carb has been re-worked to give better responce...

and me and my friends figure i have about 150...

So you picked up 50hp from basically just an exhaust system? That's funny...

i don't think it's possible on stock port and stock nikki carb. unless it's sterling or banana modded. i had the same setup as you did only w/ rx2 nikki carb w/ 13b and i didn't even assume i had that much power. i was gussing in the 135hp if not 145 max. but not 150hp.

when it all comes down, stock ports and 4 barrel carb will inhibit you gaining 150+hp. unless it's turbo then it's diff. story. just my 02 cents

i believe the most yaw has got out of his 12A with stock ports is 145 with his modded carb. i don't think he had a clutch fan on it either, and i think it was FWHP if memory serves me correctly

i also have a air cleaner lid with holes cut in the top, but not cut on the sides. i wanted to try the other method, and so far until i get my e-fan, i wont be able to tell the diff.

yeah the plan is to change the clutch fan before i move to arizona, but with the apartment and all it is making it hard. i also wanted a new scirroco style radiator with the fan for extra cooling in desert heat, but then again its winter as we speak so it might have to wait. i'm sure i have to replace my oil pan gasket though, but thats another story in itself.

do you have a filter with filtering material along the top? or are you sending unfiltered air down the carb??

If you need more power, try a Racing Beat intake,465 holley, then you might see your 150 your in search for.

I asked this question on my rotary powered vw bug and had different estimates ranging from people saying 140-160 hp. Im running stock port, rb intake,465 holley carb mech sec.,my exhaust is about 4ft long with no cats, ngk plugs. The only thing left to do before port if I go that route is NGK plug wires and new coils, not sure what im gonna go with, right now I have 2 coils that are chrome and dont show a brand name. I also dont like my racing beat air cleaner, but I havent looked at the air cleaner of choice from everyone on this board.

I would guess 132.7 hp at the flywheel....

its not just an exaust system though...my intake manifold has been ground to match the stock intake ports on the engine, then pollished...my carb has had some TLC and my exaust is fairly well done if i do say so my self (old mazda racing design with matched bends and lengh...with none of the intake heating upward bends found on a RB headder)...and it is possible to get 150...ask the guys who used to race them in the 80s at IMSA as I did and they may give you a few tips.

You know, instead of arguing with everybody about how much HP you're making, why don't you just spend the 50 bucks, and find out?

Dan
P.S.- I'm thinking that you have about 120 at the wheels....

I seem to recall that with a proper fuel pump and regulator, Sterling carb and header/no cats exhaust the max power you should expect was 150 at the flywheel.

Anything more than that requires forced induction or a porting job.

If RB's power quotes are accurate, you are looking at a 20 percent power increase at 7000 RPM with their single outlet setup. So at 7000, you're probably looking at 120-125. The other mods you have listed don't really impact horsepower that much.

I have basically the same mods as you do, except for the mech secondaries and the car does feel quite a bit faster up top, but not as much in the mid to low ranges.

15 more than stock max. You basically just did the exhaust.
