The stock one is fine. I might try something like this, though, with bwaits rad mount since I moved my battery and one side of the engine bay is empty whereas the intake side looks crammed by comparison.

So yeah, I'd do it - not for any expected performance increase, but just for better aesthetic symetry. Engine bay feng shui?

It works great, sounds great and looks great. I can't really get on it because of the rebuild but I'm very happy so far. My friend says it sounds like a cop car compared to my other friends s5 with true duals.

This is an older thread, but I want to do this to my GSL-SE, My only question is handling the MAF. I thought you said you used a adapter.. Is this correct and where did you get it?.

Yes you need the adapter. You can get them from spectreproducts which specalizes in air systems or go on ebay. The 86-88 AFM adapter is the same things except a larger opening.

Found A old k&n in the garage and some left over intercooler piping then went to town. I took the old hose going to the maf apart also taking out the ring. Now I have the the flex tube (which helps) goto a 3" IC pipe onto the maf. From there the maf adapter to the other half of the original hose (which gave me the hump to go over the coolant tank) to another piece of IC pipe that connects to the air filter.
Luckily I did not have to relocate anything.

I know water will be a problem but she's only gonna see nice days here in sunny California. I am also running a hose from near the air filter to the air intake sensor on the egi and clean the hell out of that rubber..
Sweet!

I believe you can use the MAF adapter from a 95-98 Miata. It's what I used and it fits just fine. When you bolt it together, it won't seem like a perfect fit but trust me, it'll come together.

I've put about 600 miles on it so far love it to death. Started hearing the buzzer 200 miles ago and boy does she pull....... 3rd and 4th gear seems longer esp. at night, Beat my boys s5 n/a with similar mods. now he wants a se and gave me an idea. From my research butt dyno development it works (been in the rain aswell) also in need of some extra cash for the projects. I will Duplicate mine (you will need your intake ducting, cone air fliter and of course afm) along with detailed instructions. For those that don't want to or can't. I have a couple gsl-se ducts and could have it all made up for a fee to those that really don't want to do it.

I have not made any yet and would like your oppinions on using quality couplers, t bolt clamps and thick aluminum at a higher price to the less expensive parts at a lower price? Also would anybody be interested in this? I welcome anyone to make their own, copy the pics and give feedback. Thanks pm me if interested

Actually the SE gets it's "cold" air from the battery side of the car. The intake just runs in front of the radiator and to the other side by the battery.

Depends on the year of SE though, I read that the '85s have the air intake tube extended to the battery side, and the '84s (like mine) have only a short intake tube that extends maybe 6" from the rad shroud.

Thanks. I know the se has its own source of cold air, but I wanted to clean up the engine bay and from what I feel and hear its much better.

'85 SEs don't have their own source unless you cut that part of the duct that leads all the way to the battery. I just have an open filter element but want to rig up something better whenever I buy that bracket from ReSpeed.
