Ok so i was driving my bone stock 80 that i got like 3 weeks ago last night and as i was getting on the freeway it died and i had to have it towed home cuz it was just cranking wouldn't fire up. so today i checked for spark, it had it, then fuel, it had it .... then i gave it a little gas and it fired right up it just smoked like crazy then went away and ran fine.....but it has been haveing a little surge when i speed up .... anyone know what might be wrong?

 

Does the surge seem to happen at a certain speed or RPM range? This info may help in determining why it is happening.

My first guess would be fuel filter possibly. Did it die going up a hill?

The funny ignition box could be telling you something.

 

i just put in a new fuel filter in.. it was around 3000 to 3500 at wot.... i just put the coils from my 86 parts car in to have dis and in runs so good now .... but i think the carb needs a rebuild it was sitting forever?

 

could it be one of the ignitors
