what could cause the exhaust to get red hot?

i got the clutch hydraulics bled, so i took it around the block to see how it fared.. the exhaust got red hot... and caused a small fire under my car by the time i got it back, all of 2 minutes later.... i looked under the car and the joints on the exhaust were red hot and most of the stuff under the heat shielding was red hot... had to put it out with a hose... now i'm worried it might have cracked, but i guess i'll find out... anyways any ideas?

You exhaust got red hot but im assuming that your temp guages stayed in the normal range? That is really wierd.. Maybe you are running super lean....

its a possibility, my carb has been sitting not on a vehicle for over 5 years... if i push the gas too far in it will stick too, which is really lame, and has caused it to over rev once already.... i don't really got a way to tell how lean or rich i am running, i do know theres white smoke from the tail pipe, think thats the nifty "water injection" my motor has i might have to pull this motor back out and rebuild it... stupid motor... if i do that its getting a holley carb like my broke *** REPU has lol

for the '83, you're gonna want either a full RB exhaust, or a test-pipe in place of the cats, leaving the rest of the exhaust system intact.

i liked the sound of my '83 with only the cats removed, stock everything else. when i added the header, it got a little too loud for me.
