you need the flywheel and weight that go with the engine IIRC. If its a turbo motor you would need a different starter.

Stock 13b engine would need the same flywheel that came with the engine. If you go aftermarket, determine what engine you have and pick a flywheel to go with it. Most aftermarket flywheels would require a AT rear counterweight, although some come prewelded to it. Also, you will need a matching clutch. 13b's are 225mm, 12a's (84-85) as well. You can use a 225 flywheel and a 215 clutch, but not the other way around, obviously. Also, the starter will depend on the flywheel you have, ie 225 flywheel and 215 starter will not work and vice versa.

Wrongo! 215mm and 225mm starters work from '74 to '92 NA.

I've also gotten away with using a 225mm disc and pressure plate on a 215mm flywheel, and took pictures and posted them on this very forum (and there is even a video of the car doing donuts on youtube now) but it's more involved than most prople would want to get. Just putting it out there.

Hmm. Good to clear it up

I have pictures of 225 fly and 215 clutch somewhere on here. A friend of mine has 225 flywheel and tried putting a 215 starter in it and it would not work.

This looks like an '81-'82 12A flywheel but lacks the "21" in raised numbers. The speed holes were from a balancing process. It uses a 215mm clutch.

The resurfaced 215mm flywheel installed.

225mm HD disc and SS pressure plate. How to make them fit?

Easily, with some of these bolts and spacers.

Looks like I got it on there.

225mm clutch on a 215mm flywheel is possible.

Check your 215mm flywheel for compatability with 225mm discs before spending any money. This mod worked for me because this flywheel allowed a 225mm disc to just squeak by even though it was originally made for 215mm. I've seen only one other flywheel like this so far, but I haven't really been looking.

As for the starter, the '74 REPU bellhousing in my MG Midget project fits an '86-'88 NA starter and a super light 215mm flywheel (8 pounds, just like PercentSevenC's) after a little bit of casting flash was filed down inside the hole. Turns out it's not even necessary to trim the flash; I just wanted an easier starter R&R since the MG literally only has about 1 or 2mm of room to work with under there.
