1980 Rx-7 fuel issue
Hi guys. I am going to look at a 12a powered xRx-7 tomorrow and had a quick question for you.
The owner says that the car will start right up on starting fluid but will run rough and eventually stall. Car has only 58k miles and was running fine up until a few weeks ago when the problem started.
he pulled the line to the carb and said it is only dripping out so he is thinking there must be an air leak somewhere in the fuel line.
Does this sound more like an air leak int he fuel hose or more like a pump problem? Is there a fuse or anything for the pump on these cars or are they mechanical? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Nope, probaby not an air leak - - it's a pressurized line for most of it's length, air can't leak into it.
Back in old-school V8 days, the fuel pump was on the engine, and you could lose fuel pressure that way.
On an 80, the fuel pump is back near the gas tank. You could have an air leak in the hoses between the pump and the tank, but it would have to be pretty large, and it would probably leak fuel when the pump is off.
You could have (much more likely) a clogged fuel filter, clogged/crimped line, rotted/collapsed hose, clogged pickup in the tank, a bad fuel pump, or (rare) a failed rollover valve.
