what carb to use

sold the FD...kept the FB
I have a holley on my SP 12a. It needs tuning, as it wasnt tuned very well, on the low end, right out of the box. If I get the kinks ironed out I will be very happy with it. It promises good drivability, power and fuel economy. It also mixes the oil from the OMP in the float bowls, which works better than injecting it some other way, imo.

If you got the cash, Racing Beat has Holley's basically already tuned.
They seem a little small, but it is Racing Beat and I think they know
what they are doing. I have drove a stock port 12a with a holley 600
and Iam sure it wasnt tuned, because the guy didnt know jack. It screamed
like a *****. Iam also in the process of getting my Holley on and tuning it, but
cant find any info on tuning, all I know is what jets to start with.

I stay in Seminole Heights. 83' light blue, with the a hood that
looks like it is open.
Over the weekend I put my 600 on my stock 12a. I would
say it is running like a champ, considering I have not tuned it.
All I have done is put 57 jets in it, took off the choke and made
the secondaries mechanical. Also something else to keep in mind
is, all I have spent on the carb is about $200. $150 for the carb
new and shiny off ebay, then $50 for the metering block to change
out the secondary jets.

Vac secondaries, but use the screw trick to open the sec manualy. I have changed
jets to 62 secondaries and still with 57 primaries, which made it run better. I need a
good return spring, when my crappy one is tight it seems to run better with less
stumble. I still cant believe there isnt more rotories with Holley's? I dont unerstand why not?

I can understand why not:
If you aren't lucky enough to get it off e-bay, the retail price of the carb alone is 565$ US on RacingBeat... plus shipping, and in my case, customs and currency exchange... The carb and intake kit is 770$ plus the above..
Canadian that's 850-1155 for the carb, plus shipping and customs.
THAT's why not everybody's running holleys.

****, brake down any carb or FI set ups and the price is sky high. Thats why I say get a cheap Holley, spend the cash on the intake, throw on a 7 psi fuel pump and run it! Lean out the primaries and you should be good to go for a minimum amount of cash.

Oh and vipernicus42, your update:
Sounds like a carb problems, I had similar probs, before I switched out the stock carb for my Holley. I was hopeing the engine wasnt dieing at the time, then the carb swap fixed the prob. Sounds like you are on the right track anyway.

The holley carb is not that much money. You don't have to buy it from racing beat. You can by one from any where. All you have to do to it is. Run the oil lines to the carb, seal the power valve, take off the choke and jet it corectley. The carb will cost you about $300 new. You can probably pick one up used for about $100-$150.
