What book was that?
I remember EVERYONE reccomending a book about suspension, like it's the bar none, hands down, holy grail to suspension setups, how they work, what does what, and etc...
I wanna spend money, the pop quiz question is "On what?"
Looks like it's time to do some homework.

I think the one your talking about is the one on http://www.gforceengineering.net/ I have yet to buy it, but everyone says its awesome. At $75 it better be
My honest opinion of the book is that it is good if you want to listen to only one person's input on only one car to learn about suspension setups.
Jim Susko makes great products and really knows his stuff but the book is so specific to setting up a 1st gen for IT or CSP that it is missing the bigger picture on some issues.
If you are looking to only setup one car for racing get the book.
Otherwise get a more general book.
Such as Race Car Vehicle Dynamics (very technical...not for the faint of heart)
There are others also.
First Gen RX-7 suspension is very normal. There is really nothing special about it. Look at many American muscle cars and you will see very similar setups.

Yeah, I want like a general overview of suspension types...
I've seen:
The watts link like on the RX-7
Straight up leaf springs like on my truck...
Panhard bar... Funny thing was it was on my old Civic. Goes from left side of the rear axle housing to the right side of the chassis...
And then a couple of FWD setups that could probably be translated into RWD IRS setups...
I dunno what "3 link" and "4 link" setups are...

I highly disagree. Did you really read and digest the whole book? While I agree that the focus is on IT and CSP cars, he doesnt just tell you, "change this part", "buy my tri link". He explains the geometry of OUR cars in much detail, which is info not found in a generic book. He goes into all the problems inherent in OUR suspensions including detailed drawings and analysis and explanations of the operating characteristics in a language even a dolt like me can understand. Plus you can call him and ask for advice. Lets see if the author of one of those other books will take your calls and questions. He also explains springs, shocks, tires and the tuning of them. That is priceless info for ANY 1st gen.

I guess my comment came across far more negatively than I meant it to.
As the original poster said himself he is looking for a book that is general and covers many different suspension types.
For that, the absolute most technical and complete book I reccomend:
Race Car Vehicle Dynamics by Milliken and Milliken.

There are several other books out there. I don't have a list right now.
