What is the best way to remove tar paper (sound deadening)???

On my project cheap autocrosser, I am trying to remove as much weight as possible.

Some folks have claimed that removing the tar/sound deadening from the floors can reduce up to 20 pounds.... I am in!!

What do you guys think is the best way to remove this tar paper from the floors???

Dry ice, load it in on the floors it will freeze and harden the stuff then you just chip it up.

probably the only upside of living in Vermont is I don't need dry ice, just need to do this job in the winter... park car outside for the night, pull in garage hit with hammer, chip off. done. repeat if necessary.

crazy how easy the stuff comes off when the car is 15-20 below zero.

Why, because it's dangerous to work with. Potential for freeze burns and when it evaporates it can become an aphyxiant.

I've managed to chip it off the inside at room temperature w/o freezing it. To clean up the little spider bits that are left, use a scotchbtite with mineral spirits/paint thinner.

Dry ice. Wear a leather glove on your non-dominant hand. Hold large chunk of dry ice with leather glove. Freeze a section, and hit it with a hammer. Repeat on next section. Should take a couple of hours at most.

When I did it to my old FB it was at minimum 20 pounds.
