DHLA 48 install Vacuum questions

Hey all,

I'm in the process of rebuilding a Dellorto DHLA 48 and I hope to do the install in the Spring, but I have a couple of vacuum questions:

1. Can I keep the Air Conditioning? Since I'll be removing the Rat's Nest and the Racing Beat Upper and Lower manifolds don't have vacuum ports....how can I keep the A/C solenoid operating?

2. Pretty much the same thing goes for the Cruise Control....do I have to pitch it?

3. I read in a recent post that you just remove the vacuum advance (distributor). Leaving it unplugged ... Is this the most common approach? Is there anything else I'll need to do, like advance the timing?

Thanks

RB recommends not using the vacuum advance. In that case, set the timing at 24L, 16T with the RPMs at 4000. Re-mark the timing pulley. 1 mm=1 degree of timing wheel circumference.

All the AC solenoid does is bump up the idle to compensate for the AC compressor load at idle. You can bump the idle up to compensate in the summer. You may not be able to use the cruise control as the Nikki carb has a separate and independent cam for the CC cable.

Check this out. It would do the trick... Of course it caosts almost what the carb does... Still, I think it's a super cool innovation

I am running a Mikuni and I have AC. I was bugged by the idle issue so I took the idle compensator off the Nikki, controlled it with one of the vacuum switches off the rats nest, fabricated a mount that positions it so it can open the throttle ever so slightly when the AC compressor kicks on, works perfectly!!! The RPMs do not fluctuate at all.

PS I dont run any vacuum advance I just set the timing at about 4 grand and it works fine.
