Thanks for the tip. Will scrutinize check and any other paperwork. This whole thing has been anything but straightforward.

So why would he have to purchase a car he already owns?!

If insurance totaled the car out, they would offer the $2600 to owner and they scrap the car. Owner then could buy it back for X amount and keep the car...so in that example, owner would get $2400 to keep the car (2600-200).

As i was leaving writer said there's good possibility ins. co. will total car and there's a couple guys here that would buy it from you.... just sent estimate off to ins. co. I'm certain others here have had to deal with this situation, any guidance, ideas, tips on how to handle this would be appreciated. Not too happy right now....
RED FLAG!

YOU ARE BEING SCAMMED BY THE BODY SHOP!

Go to another shop and get another estimate. Do not let them total the car and do not sell it! I've been in the auto repair industry for a little while now and can tell you there are some crooked shops and insurance companies out there trying to take advantage of people for an easy profit or to reduce their losses. Body shops are the worst.

Thanks for the heads up,don't know if this is a crooked shop, didn't seem like it,but you never know. What the ins. writer said was in line with what i'd heard here and elsewhere. A shop employee did walk up to me and offered to buy my car if i wasn't going to fix it....
