Weird noise...

Once again--another problem...

While driving, there is a clicking sound that clicks directly proportionally to how fast I am going... As I start to slow down, so do the clicks, but as I get to a very slow rate, I can hear something lightly scraping something under my car... The noise only happens when I'm moving--if i rev the engine, it doesn't produce that noise...
The front right has a loose panel (the place where the wheel is--don't know terminology for that place ) that will vibrate when I drive... but I'm sure that can't be the noise I hear cuz it clicks even when I am barely moving...

I just put on a full street port RB exhaust system... but still, that can't be the cause... Could it be the transmission? Somthing might even be stuck in my wheel, but upon inspection from the outside, I can't find anything wrong.

I need to find some time to take off wheels and check--meanwhile, help me figure out my problem

Sound like a bad CV joint?

1. Clicking when turning slowly. drive the you car slowly in a car parking lot, do figure 8's with the steering on fully turned. listen for clicking or grinding or change in the noise level between left and tight turns.
it also might be easier to hear when you backup with the wheels turned.

2 shaking or vibration during acceleration. excess wear of either the inboard or outboard CV joints.

Sounds like one of your transmission mounts are gone. Cheap fix.
I had this happen to me while I was travelling on the highway and I thought I threw a seal..

But the tranny mount went.. Check the mount. There are only two of them and should be easy to see.

FYI: No CV joints on a 1st gen!!!!

It's likely one of your universal joints at either end of the driveshaft. Most likely the front one. Do not, repeat, do not take the shaft to a shop to have the universals replaced. No matter what they say they won't be able to do it correctly. Get a "quality" used one from the yard, or order one from Mazdatrix, and I do believe there's a fella out on the NorthWest, Washington perhaps that sells good ones...Can anyone help us there?

Denny, from the 'ol corncrib....

if it's the driveshaft, you can also get one custom made for less than new. i got one for my old SE in orlando. $200, perfectly balanced, and the u-joints were the same as the ones use on heavy duty dodge trucks. very tough indeed!

Wow!

That's fantastic, rotorhead! What did they need to do one? Did they need the original driveshaft? $200 is very, very reasonable....

Ok--down to the nitty gritty...

I found out that it's my shaft lightly rubbing on my friggin shield... How did that happen? I have no freaking idea.

Next step--I gotta figure out where it's rubbing and moving the shield away from the shaft...
