I picked up a used 45 DCOE and intake for my stock 85 GSL 12A . The carb is set up with a hose fitting on the carb top cover which feeds oil directly into the gas bowl chamber. You would use the stock OMP lines, T fit them into one line, then terminating at the inlet on the carb top cover.
Anyone used this set up before? I've looked at RotorMotorGuy's install page on his 45 DCOE and I see he ran the OMP lines into the intake manifolds primary runners. Years ago on my old 1st gen my streetport 13B had a similar set up (two lines terminating in the manifold runners)..Just curious as to what the difference may be. I have my thoughts, but curious what you guys may think.

 

Here is my attempt to send a pic of the carb (installed on the guys car I bought it from.) You can see the two OMP lines being fitted to one single line and then routed to the fitting on top of the carb housing.

Any comments on this set-up would be great.

 

what is that canister? fuel pump or a filter.

 

You could just forget the OMP and run premix if you wanted to.

 

WackyRacer- The canister is a fuel pressure regulator.
Mr. ImportGuy- I thought about pre-mixing but it's just a stock 12A. I ran the OMP on a streetported 13B for several years with fairly good results (the route was in the intake runners though)..
I'm curious if anyone has seen a 45DCOE set up like this, what they think, or if anyone could think of any comments/concerns about running the oil this way.

it's still mixing oil with gasoline so doesn't sound like a bad way to go. Assuming it doesn't drip right ontop of a float or the needle and seat or something, or gum up the needle and seat, but that's a LONG shot.

I'd rather have it before the venturi so it'll mix with the air/fuel but what you described should be fine.

It will minutely affect the amount of float drop since it's adding oil into the float bowl, and that oil will take up space and raise the floats a hair. But I wouldn't be too concerned with it.

If you want, just seal and cap that port on the top cover and drill and tap any of the unused and factory lead plugged ports on the carb "barrel ". Sounds like more work than it's worth.

I will definately tap oil lines into the manifold if this current set up through the carb top cover is NOT recommended. (Why tap holes if this will work)..Just never seen it routed this way...(at least the ones I have seen)

 

Umm, that rubber hose going into the top of the carb is a little weird... The only thing I can think of is that its the oil feed off the OMP and going straight into the float bowl like a Holley (right?). Which should work just fine, I dont see why it wouldnt unles smaybe the oil is dilluted by mixing with the gas first rather than being injected straight into the runners... Hell, I dont know.
