Weber 32/36

Yes, I am a newby, but the '85 RX7 (non FI) I just bought is my 15th car, and I have worked on all of them. I also already have a relatively new Weber 32/36 left over from another project, and I am dying to try it on the RX7. The question is, is this a waste of time? In other words, is the 32/36 even a little bit of an improvement over the original 4bbl?

Thanks. I will save it for the next car, but I think that might be a long time. I like this RX7 a lot, and it doesn't even run yet. The First Gen RX7 is the best looking car ever disigned.

What do you guys think of Ford 302 conversions? Is that a dirty word?

Maybe you can has a custom manifold and use 2 of those little Webers?
302 conversion IS a dirty word here.. we love our 7s because of its heart.. The Rotary Engine! well, Id like to hope that we do.. fellas? Then again it is your car.

Give me some time; I haven't even driven it yet.
I like the car for it's looks, the rear drive, and the price. I got it for 300 bucks - straight, nice interior, and new tires. It's all there, but it doesn't run yet. I am guessing it has a lot of the problems I see on this forum, but it might just be spark plugs or a clogged converter. I can't wait to get started.

While I'm not a proponent of the V8 conversion, I like the 302 motor a lot, and that would be my personal choice. Those 32/36 Webers work real well on mini trucks, but are too small for a rotary used singly. There are some dual Weber manifolds that use two of the 32/36s, they work great, but are expensive and then you have the bit of hassle with synchronization. They do provide good low and mid-range power, though.

As you can see from my name, I am cheap when it comes to fixing up cars. I want this car to work as is, but, if I have to get a new engine, I will want to get the most bang for my buck (to use a cliche). The same goes for the carb. It's a relationship thing. I have to let my wife spend as much money as I do, so I have to keep the cost down.

I like to put power steering fluid in struts and cut the original springs, for instance. That usually makes for a stiff ride, but I like it that way. I have been known to bend my own swaybars, too.

I hear horror stories about rebuilding Wankel engines, but I am definitley willing to try especially if I can do it cheap (time is not an issue).

I really appreciate the input from you die hard RX7 types. This is the most newby-friendly forum I am used.

Well, I was right, I think. I put new cap, rotor, and wires on the car, cleaned the plugs, and it started. It blew white smoke for a while, but it went away once the engine warmed up. I am hoping that the white smoke was from water built up in the engine after it sat outside all winter with the air cleaner off.

Thoughts?

Damn. I went home for lunch and had the urge to start the car. I wanted to see if any more white smoke came out. The good new is that no smoke came out, it ran great; the bad news is that I didn't get it started until I reconnected the main fusible link after I burned it up from connecting the battery backwards. 00PS (I normally don't use emoticons, but, this time, I would have used one that looks like a dumbass if I knew where to get one).
