Hood and exhaust help!

Ok first off I have a 85 GS. I swapped out my 12a for a 12at J-spec. The downpipe doesnt match up to my stock exhaust system. What should I do? Should I have a new downpipe made? Or should I get a new exhaust system? In any even I want to get rid of my cat. Also my hood doesnt want to close over my turbo hat, it's about 1/2 an inch to tall. Should I do some sort of hood scoop mod? Does anybody know where I can have my hood modifyed or a place that sells 1st gen hoods with scoops? Any help would be appreciated!

Peace

i would get new exhaust. why not upgrade since you have a reason.

on the hood, i'm not sure how thick the bracing is but if its hitting that i would suggest cutting that section of bracing out. or if you have some paint, beat a "speed hump" into it like the eclipse hoods have to clear the turbo.

What exhaust would you recommend? Out of your choices would it bolt up to my 12at downpipe? How hard would it be to "beat" a bump into the hood? What tools would be needed? I was thinking about just cutting a hole in the hood and moulding a hood scoop with fiberglass like the turbo 86 300zx has. Whats your opinion?

If you're blingin' hard, you could just buy a fiberglass or carbon fiber hood from 1st7heaven (or something like that). Not sure if he's still making them, but he was for awhile. Or else just cut out a portion and throw a fiberglass hood scoop on there (JC Whitney has a ton of them). Be sure you do something to keep rain water off your engine though.

As for the exhaust, just get a local shop to build you a system, preferably cat-less. This is usually the cheapest and easiest way, just make sure they use thick tubing and a damn good muffler (you probably want to provide that).

Good luck

If I went Cat-less what would I do with the line that runs from the car to the intake? No sure what its called. Does JC Whitney have a web site?

what redwood said. get a good muffler and have a shop fabricate the rest. the turbo will help tone it down so i don't think a presilencer would be absolutely necessary.

as for the hood hump. jack up motor some, cut away hood bracing, put something flexable and curvy on the offending protrusion, then slam the hood hard a few times. lower motor. now you have a bfh racing "speed hump". enjoy

i find it a little odd that it doesn't fit though, especially since i haven't noticed the j-spec cars having a different hood for the turbo version.

Turbo12A - Where do you live? If youre local, I might wanna come check out your car sometime, would that be cool?

As for the exhaust, youre gonna wanna have a shop fabricate it.

As for the hood, I personally would try and cut bracing out of the way first. If that didnt work, then cut a hole, and fiberglass a scoop on it. If that didnt work, then open and slam hard repeatedly until it fits .
