Water Light on Dashboard Question

Gday everyone. Been a while but im back with another question for all you guys that helped me last time when you taught me how to bleed the lines and fix up my clutch problem.

This time its the Little Light on the Dash of my 1982 S2 12A that is coming on every now and then. I've checked the water levels under the bonet and it looks fine. Was wondering if it was something with a pipe blockage or something causing this as it doesn't stay on all the time but goes on and off quite frequently.

Cheers,

Matt

The water level sensor is located on the top of the radiator. It has a single wire going to it and usually that wire is very brittle and is prone to breaking. Could be the wire is broken and that is your problem. Could also be that your overflow tank is not working correctly and your radiator is actually getting low at times.

Thanks for the tip, will i be able to spot the wire myself do you think? As for whether the overflow is working properly would that be due to the rubber pipe attached to it becoming blocked or anything? i want to remove it to see if its blocked with gunk or anything but is that safe for a layman to do?

The wire is REAL easy to see. Just look on the very top of the radiator and you can't miss it.

If you want to remove that rubber hose that goes from the overflow tank to the..upper radiator hose thing, then yeah it's easy. Just pop it off and make sure you put it back on tight.

As for where the sensor is...you can KINDA see it right to the left of the Radiator cap in this pic.

I've had the same problem with my SE, unfortunately, the car has been sitting for 3 weeks because of a bad clutch, so I havent been able to fix it yet.
