Decifering Voltage output of sensors. Voltage range in correlation with TEMP?
I am trying to wire in this addition harness for my Blitz SBC ID III. It will measure the the amount of voltage going to any sensor.
I want to monitor my:
- Water Thermo Sensor
- Air Intake Temp Sensor
- AFM Air Intake Temps.
I have read through the factory service manual and found the trouble shooting guidelines for measuring RESISTANCE on all sensors.
I also found the Voltage Output chart (pg 4B-32/ 86-88 FSM) for all three sensors.
-Water Thermo is supposed to have approx 0.4-1.8V when the engine is warmed up.
-AFM Intake temp should have 2-3V @68 degrees F
-Air Intake Temp sensor should have 1-2V @ 176 degree F
My question is what correlation does resistance have to voltage? More resistance less voltage correct? Now since these voltage guidelines only give the happy median for the sensors, is there a way I can figure out what the senosrs max voltage/temp will be and vice vers for low temp/voltage?
Since the troubleshooting procedures all have you measure resistance, should I be able to work off of those numbers to determine the voltage that correlates with the resistance for the specific tempature?
OR do I need to call Mazda to get the parameters of all the sensors?
Any help is always appreciated guys. Thanks
